I got a notice to FFL holders yesterday. When the BATF moves from Treasury to Justice it will become the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. I wonder if they'll get to slide down poles into a car with fins when going on a call?

They need to become the BULTA (Bureau of Unemployed or Laterally-Transferred Agents).

Someone remind me what they do that can't be administered better or more efficiently by someone else, or isn't completely unconstitutional to start with...

And I noticed that the Alcohol and Tobacco regulatory and tax enforcement stuff was going to stay with Treasury Dept anyway, with a new organization called something else.

So I'm a bit surprised they didn't drop Alcohol and Tobacco from their name...

Could also call them Treasury Agents, Second Class (couldn't get into Secret Service).

The BFE. The beefy's? Sounds like male strip club performers to me.

:what:

Hmm...

I still have a standing offer to go work for the ATF upon my military retirement.

Wife think's I'm stupid for not accepting the GS-11 position. I've been softening, and somewhat intrigued with being on the inside over there.

Better go see my head doctor soon. :(

I'd rather see them called something like Federal Alcohol Revenuers, Tobacco Inspectors and No Guns. (2nd Amendment followed to the letter)

F.A.R.T.I.N.G. Agents.

LOL, that was pretty good.
But I'd rather call them DISBANDED.
They have outlived all usefulness. All BATF persons should have to apply for a limited number of postions within the US CUSTOMS, US BOARDER PATROL and DEA.
If they are not hired... too freaking bad. Find another line of work. I hear Pinkerton and Wackenhut are hiring.

Gewehr98,
I'd say take the job ... we could use some good people inside there.

George,
What makes you think Pinkerton and Wackenhut would want them? They have their public image to protect and don't have the government's deep pockets to pay off the inevitable lawsuits.

However my oldest son is having trouble hiring back line cooks at his Hardees....if they really want to work

Jeff

Guess this signals a formal shift from tax collector to law enforcement status for them. We all know that was de facto many years ago, so this is basically a paperwork cleanup.

I wonder if they'll get nice arm badges now...

I hold a blaster's license in California. Now I have to get a Federal background check along with the DOJ check.

MF

BJOE...Bureau of Justify Our Existence

or

BPPS...Bureau for the Perpetuation of a Police State

When was the last time a government agency was ever phased out never to return again? Renaming does not count. Neither does the changing of a government during a revolution or transfer of power.

Okay, that was a trick question... the answer is NEVER.:fire:

ATF already deals with explosives. That is what they told me when they paid me a visit. I was not very polite to begin with as they drove past a few times and then pulled up to a shed that was clearly NOT occupied. I was driving around to figure out who was checking out my home so I wound up blocking them in with my truck. OPPS.

Just announced ~ the new bureau's highest award is going to be known as the "Citation for Exemplary Service" hereafter known as BATFECES
