Holy Grail Found….

If not that, then what would I want instead. I looked at some favorites I don’t have like. 2 inch M15 or a 2.5” M19… maybe a 3 inch M625 or 3 inch M13. In the end, none of those did it for me. Even IF I could have bought 2 off that list for the same money or not much more it was only briefly tempting.

Rest assured my friend, you made the one and only true choice that you could.

Enjoy and savor the moment...

I’ve seen numerous M27 3.5”, even Nickled.

I had a Lt. at a PD I worked at that carried a Nk M27 3.5” circa ‘79-82. We all carried Nk revolvers. A couple even had 4”Pythons. I carried a S&W M19 4” Nk. W/O insert and blue rear sight.
A couple yrs ago I scored a M19 with Orange insert but no sights. I replaced rear with a blue rear sight assembly and a set of new walnut grips.

I’ve never seen a pinned Blued ramp front sight ramp as that one has.
I’m thinking it might be a custom modification. Something I’d likely have done!
It’s the proud pins that I notice. (See post #27 above) All the Nkl’d M27’s I’ve seen had the pins polished down flush, prior to being nkl’d. Likely was sent back to S&W for that. I’ve got several Smiths that I sent back when the Custom Shop was indeed such...

Either way, Beautiful specimen!

Sometimes or maybe often, once the
holy grail gun is gotten, you wonder
why you even bothered. You realize
you were the victim of hype, nostalgia,
others' opinions or just that it was
"unobtainium."

I have seen a few just like it but only on pre 27’s and 27 no dash. Sometime shortly after this one was made they started polishing the pins flat and nickel plating the ramp & blade. By the time they got to the 27-2, the ramp was integral to the barrel so everything was nickel plated. I am fairly active on a S&W forum and have been assured by the experts that the blued front ramp & blade are correct for a nickel 27 from that time period. They are fairly unique and thats why I bought it

Maybe….. but I wanted it and had the money for it. Its no different than someone sinking a bunch of money into that 68 Camaro they always wanted. Maybe they’ll find it wasn’t what they thought it would be, or maybe they absolutely love it. You will never know unless you try it.

Outstanding!

I would ditch the 2"x2" lumber profile grips for some barked elk horn Magnas and put it on duty immediately. A warm 158 gr LSWC-GC loading paying homage to the original style ammo without the leading should do nicely.

I love that the sights are free from the red ramp insert abomination.
Like these?

You know it! It's your grail, and it's good that you found it. If you decide it's not what you hoped, you get to set a new grail. I still haven't decided what my grail is.
The only gun I have picked up in a looong time that was exactly what I was looking for is my recently acquired LCP Max, and that's not much of a grail gun. I'm a frequent flyer on flight 4473 but rarely is it for something I was actually searching for.
