Not sure if this has been discussed before........if it has, then you all have my apologies. Long story short, a guy couldn't put two holes in the wall to install his satellite TV system, so he used his handgun and shot the holes in the wall. The second round penetrated the wall, and hit his wife, killing her, while she was standing in the yard.

I know that a gun is a tool, but I'm just wondering if there is any rationale behind using a gun for home improvement. It seems to me that it's just an accident waiting to happen when using a gun for work around the house (not self-defence work). And wouldn't his actions be violating the rule of knowing what's beyond the target? Thank you for your thoughts on the issue.

Like most I have a few home improvement guns.....grease gun, nail gun, blow gun, mig gun, caulking gun, paint gun, and staple gun. My favorite is a 12 gauge with #4 shot for trimming unreachable tree limbs....

So if guess if he didn’t kill his wife was his plan to run some 3/8 All-Thread Rod though the bullet holes and nut them on the outside of the home with over-sized washers....what an idiot

You can't fix dumb - no matter what. If the story is a true one, then it is obvious it would fall under that catagory

I know in Mexico it's common practice to do this. They have a single shot, that looks like a pen that is very simple in design. I can't for the life of me remember the name of it, but they do use it.

WAAAY back in the 1900's, before I had indoor plumbing, I needed to make a hole in my outhouse wall, and didnt have enough cords to reach that far with my drill. I used a Ruger 45 to make the hole. All was well, nobody standing on the other side of the wall watching for the hole to appear, and no close neighbors in that direction.

I had a supervisor, I always thought he was a moron. He told me he needed a hole in the basement of his mothers house to run a pipe. The hammer drill was taking too long and was too hard to do. He and his helper took a piece of pipe, one held it where the said hole was needed. He went to the other end and placed the barrel of 270 rifle in the other end. Claims he got the hole drilled in 6 rounds.......moron.

Oh the pipe, was there so the bullet wouldnt stray.

Back in the '70's, we had a wood heater installer that had been known to use his deer rifle to make holes in the ceiling and roof where he wanted the flue to go. Marked the ceiling, Plumbed up the gun and pulled the trigger.

When I was out in the sticks I used firearms to do things such as put holes in burn barrels and chop down widowmakers in the winter. Try using a chainsaw to cut down frozen trees at forty below zero.

Shotgun slugs worked best, also 54R softpoints. The wood really shatters. These were pretty small spruce trees in Alaska, though. I don't think you'd make much headway with a large tree.

I've shot holes in the bottom of my garbage can so it would quit holding rain water, works pretty well to tell you the truth. I did know what was under the garbage can though.........dirt.

Around the home....hmmm.
I remember way back in my off road days reading of a guy whose fuel pump failed way out in the desert....he shot a hole in the hood with his .45 and rigged up a gas can on the hood with a hose through the hole to gravity feed the carb to get home...
