Hoping someone can explain odd chronograph readings

Clearly you did not have any velocity of over 3,000 fps!
It's the chronograph. I went through two Pro Chroys years ago. They just are a PITA. They are haunted!
Some like them but here in the Sun they just do not work I tried all kinds of "tricks" got my money back and got a Competition Electronics. Best $100 or so I spent,

Rule3,

I'm confused because my ProChrono DLX is made by Competition Electronics as are all 4- models of the ProChrono. The DLX is the top of the Competition Electronics line of chronos. As I stated originally I have never had an issue with it when shooting factory ammo in any of the 7- calibers that I shoot. This was the first time using it with my reloads and why I was perplexed with the results I got. I verified the readings with factory ammo before, during and after shooting the reloads and each time the factory numbers were within the specs of the ammo. Every reload that went through it returned an odd and unbelievable number. I know that my reloads are not the only problem because the recoil, ejection distance, sound, accuracy and condition of the spent cases on every round was normal.

I appreciate the replies from everyone and am going to try some of the tricks that have been recommended. Since I was shooting FMJ projectiles I'm going to start by loading some of the coated Blue Bullets that I just received and see what happens with the chrono since they are a dark blue and should do the same thing as coloring the FMJ's as more than a few on here have suggested. I honestly will be surprised if this alone solves this mystery being that my factory ammo was also FMJ, but I am not going to argue with the voices of experience. I will let you know how it goes, if it ever quits raining down here!

Thanks again to all who replied and be safe out there.

Apparently I am very confused and demented from being locked up for a month.!! My Bad.
I thought it was a Chrony one of those fold a matics! Sorry my error.

Never Mind:eek:

My recent 115gr FMJ test strings with BE-86 ran much slower than the Alliant data would indicate. So I believe it's Alliant's data, which was probably derived using much longer test barrels. A longer barrel naturally results in a higher velocity than what a 4" pistol barrel can develop.

The chrono is reporting remarkably close readings with your GECO test ammo, therefore the ProChrono is OK.

Rule3,

Lol it's all good and I know what you mean about being locked up for the past month because it's taking it's toll on us all, but like everything else Americans have endured, we will get past this and be better for it!
Take care my friend

rfwobbly,

This is very interesting and I'm glad that you replied because I was wondering what others have seen using BE-86 and a 115gr FMJ. Can you possible elaborate on what speeds you were seeing and at what charge levels? I would really appreciate it. Thank you
