I was thinking in trying the 120 grain SP bullet from Hornady in my 7mm-08
The reloading book states this round is for small game I can't see any reason why it wont work on deer .The bullet has a good B.C. and should reduce recoil compared to the 140 grain bullet

I've been using the 120 Nosler Ballistic tip for many years on Michigan Whitetails. EXCELLENT results! ALL ARE ONE SHOT KILLS AND MOST ARE BANG-FLOPS! From 30 to 125yds [my experience] they are deadly and accurate. As I shoot them from a Rem Model 7, they also produce virtually no recoil from this very light rifle; lighter recoil was the reason I looked to them, and I am extremely satisfied with their performance. Nosler has them available right now thru Shooters Pro Shop as factory 2nds at about 1/3 off regular prices. I've shot the hornady 120 gr SP also, but never at game. they are also very accurate from my rifle and I wouldn't hesitate to use them as a light deer bullet.

i think the 120sp will work just fine
i use regular old 140gr core lokt bullets in my 7mm-08 for south carolina white tail
with great results.....don't over think it....its got more to do with where u put the bullett than anything else

the 120 hornady is a bad idea in this application. i'm not sold on the 120 sierra, either, but i think it is a little better. the 120 nosler actually has a thicker jacket than the 140 nosler, and is probably the best choice in a big game application where a 120 grain bullet just has to be used (and it pains me to say anything even close to nice about nosler).

my own experience w/ the 120 sierra + 7-08 + deer was a little underwhelming. suggest you stick w/ 140's and up for 7-08 in a big game application.

good luck!

I would have to agree with others that although it would probably kill a deer, even Hornady lists it as a varmint bullet. It has a marginal jacket thickness that's not conducive to proper expansion for large game.
There are better choices available for big game.
