Picked up some reloading components and powder from a fellow that got out of reloading a few years ago and included in one of the boxes was 2 boxes of Nosler 7mm 120 Gr. Solid Base Flat Point bullets. Can I use these bullets in a 7mm Magnum? I've found loads for Hornady 120 gr. for 7mm-08 and 284, but no mention of using them in the 7mm Magnum. I did find load data for the Hornady 120 gr. SP's for the 7mm Magnum but nothing for the Nosler bullets. Anyone try these in their 7mm Magnum? Thanks.

I believe those were made for reloading the 7-30 Waters for use in a lever action gun...

I think that those would be limited to around 2800 or less FPS...

Jim,

Thanks. Nothing that slow listed on Hodgdon's web site for the 120 gr. Hornady bullets. Guess I will try to find someone that may need them for a 7-30 Waters.

What is the Nosler part number? If it's a jacketed flat nose .284 120 gr. bullet you should have no real problems using standard 7mm RM data. But erring on the safe side of things is always the best approach in this hobby. Give me the part number and I'll find out if that bullet can be loaded for 7mm RM.

Nosler Reloading Manual number three list these as being for the 7-30 Waters ... Part number 41722....

Yes you can load them in a 7mm Remington Magnum with out any problem ....as long as you realize that they are made for a velocity much lower than what you can get with a 7mm Mag. If you load them down to the 2700/2800 FPS level ....I'm sure that they would shoot just fine .... load them at a higher level and they are going to come apart very fast.

I have loaded 150 gr Flat pointed bullets designed for the 30/30, in my 30/06 .... I keep the velocity down to near 30/30 levels and they shot just fine... they are not going to be long range loads because of the Flat Points .... you'll find the same with the 120 gr FP 7mm ....

Hornady # 9 list 120 gr bullets with three different bullets ... but it starts at 2900 fps ...
