First off I'm new to reloading.

I just got my press and etc. in for Xmas.

I'm trying to work up a load for my 1911 TRP using Hornady 230 gr. XTP/HP.
I ran into a few issues I'm hoping this group can help me out with.

First issue:

I followed the Hornady Manual for the load it stated OAL of 1.230 if I put that round into my barrel it extends past the end of the barrel.

I dropped it down to 1.213 and it seems just under the end of the barrel.

Anyone have the correct OAL for a XTP / TRP combo?

Second Issue:

When reloading the XTP I find that the brass seems to buldge where the bullet goes in.

0.472 @ the mouth (used a taper crimp)
0.4725 @ the end of the bullet
0.470 @ the mid point between the end of the bullet and the base.
0.471 @ the base

Is this Normal for a reload?

I used a Lyman Max Cartridge Guage and it seems fine.

Thanks

Mike

1.230 to 1.235 is what Hornady loads them at. It sounds like the match chamber on your Springfield needs them a little shorter to chamber. I would load them as long as the throat on your chamber allows.

A little bulge is normal.

My Springer Mil-Spec likes the 230gr XTPs at an OAL of 1.245". Feeds well that way and with AA#5, can shoot 1 to 1.5" groups at 15yds all day.
