Has anyone confirmed Hornady's velocity claims for its 30-06 light mag ammo with a chronograph? If so, what rifle did you use? I am really interested in the verity of their 165 loadings at 3000+ in the 30-06. thanks.
The light mag has been replaced with the Superformance load. I can't speak for 30.06 but out of my 24" barrel Vanguard in .270 Win the 130gr SST chrono's 3200+ fps. I don't see any reason the 30.06 load wouldn't follow suit. No hype on Hornady's end.
The Superformance 30-06/165 is advertised at 2960fps from a 24" barrel. My rifle chronographed 2860 from a 22" barrel but accuracy was not acceptable. I have handloads getting 2850 fps and shooting under 1 MOA.
I tried some 308/150's advertised at 3000 fps from a 24" barrel and got 2970 from a 22" barrel. Accurcy is almost as good as my handloads, but is about 100 fps faster than my best loads.
Hornady did recall 1 lot of ammo for the 30-06 and the 2 boxes I tried were in the lot recalled. That may explain the poor performance I got. I have not called Hornady about returning the partial box I still have.
