I didn't know Hornady made a 77gr bullet I know they make a 75 gr Match bullet, Sierra makes a couple 77gr Match bullets. Check out the usual online places, Midway has 75gr Hornady and 77gr bullets, they also carry Black Hills ammo in 75 gr and 77gr. Hope this helps.

The Mk262 cartridges have used both Sierra 77gr and Nosler 77gr (current issue) bullets. The heaviest Hornady makes is the 75gr.

Twist for the Heavies?

BR, can you use a 1:9 twist with these heavier bullets and still get very good accuracy at 300 or 500 yards?

I think you are going to have to buy a box and try it in your own rifle. I've seen guys on AR15.com get very good accuracy with 1/9 twist and 75gr. bullets and some say it patterns like shotguns. It seems to vary from barrel to barrel.

I recently tried 52gr., 68gr., and 75gr. Black Hills OTM in my 1/9 twist 20" Bushmaster A2 Govt. profile barrel. I only shot at 100 yards, but I was very surprised that I got the best accuracy with the 75gr. I just bought some more BH 75gr., some Hornady 75gr, and some Federal 69gr.(Sierra Match King) to do some further testing on both that rifle and my HBAR.

Now, I don't know if either the Hornady, Sierra or Nosler bullets would start to get unstable past that or if they do anything weird get more stable at longer distance like .303s are known to do.

BTW, Chris Rines, if Midway doesn't have what you are looking for, also try Natchez

My 20" 1:9 chrome lined HBAR Bushmaster upper shot the 75 Hornady BTHP (not the A-MAX) pretty good. I never tried the 77 Sierras out of it. I've read that some 1:9s are "faster" than others, so like DMK sez, you're gonna have to experiment and see whatcha get.

I can't... some other people have been able to do so. One of the things that most of the people who use the 75gr successfully have in common are:

1) A relatively new, clean barrel
2) longer barrel lengths (20" and 24", though I've seen reports of some successful 16" as well)
3) good velocity

Currently I only have a single 1/9 barrel and it does not like even the heavier 68s, let alone the 75gr and other loads.

According to G&A this month you can get a duplicate of the MK262 from Black Hills in their "match" line. (pg. 56) They say the only difference is that the primer isn't crimped and there's no cannelure. FWIW.

Have a good one,
Dave

Creedmoor Arms just took delivery of a load that is identical to Mk262 except for being loaded to SAAMI pressures instead of NATO according to Jeff at Black Hills. You might check them out.

It has the cannelure, primers sealed and crimped, etc.
