Hello folks,

Just wondering if you've noticed a difference between Hornady brass sold with their ammunition and Hornady brass sold for handloading.

I'm just starting to handload 6.5 Creedmoor. I am working on building up a quantity of brass that I will use for handloading. I'm wondering if the brass from Hornady ammo is the same stuff they sell for handloading.

Thanks!
Pete

I can't imagine it being different. I have tons of 308 brass made by Hornady. Some came from factory loads, others empty brass that I purchased. I've never gone to the trouble to carefully measure the 2 for differences. But my loads don't seem to change.

So far all of my 6.5 Creedmoor brass is re-used from Hornady factory loads. I did pick up a box of new brass but haven't even opened it yet.

Starline is now making rifle brass. I bought some 6.5CM (SP) from them earlier this year. It was very consistent. After cleaning it the first time, and sizing I'm noticing that the length is short. Some don't even make it back to the trim length. I've started resizing 308W brass down to 6.5cm. I was wanting some heavy wall brass instead of every thing running min 0.013". The old brass F.C. Brass I had was running 0.017" in wall thickness. So I reamed the inside first, sized then turn the necks so I have 0.015" wall thickness. What a huge difference it makes on neck tension.

Its funny this has been brought up as I have about 100 pieces of once fired Hornady brass in 223rem that came from factory ammo and when I was separating it I noticed the head stamps are different. One head stamp the Hornady 223rem is stamped in the brass while the other its almost scratched in the brass and can barely be seen. Kind of makes ya wonder. :)

I will be purchasing a 100 pack for my match shooting here soon and I will chime back in on how the head stamp on that looks.

OP,
In some calibers, mainly for lever actions, some of their ammo using the FTX Leverevolution bullets will have shorter case lengths. This has been noted in some pistol and rifle calibers and is done to accommodate the longer bullets. I'm pretty sure that's not the case in your case - pun possibly intended.
