Hornady Lock-n-load AP

Clutch, it passes the magnet test so it's some ferrous material. My assumption is cast iron. In fact the entire thing except the clear plastic tube, the two rubber o-rings and it's cap are ferrous.

The frame of the press itself is NOT ferrous. My guess is some form of cast aluminum. The ram is ferrous and all but the two thin upright parts of the linkage are aluminum. The shell plate is Ferrous. The priming system is also ferrous and so is the blast tube for the primers.

I'm using a Neodymium Magnet Motor (that is, rare earth RC Car motor) which is disturbingly strong.

I'll jump in, my experience is limited to all of one hour on the LNL AP and 101 rounds of .45 ACP as I just bought the thing today. I labored over which progressive to get and I don't have any regrets. Walked out of Cabelas with one sans case feeder for 470$ with 101 remington cases and 1lb of Hodgdon HP-38, went back and spent 32$ on a #1 shell plate and set it up.

Took very little time to set up. Cleaned out the powder measure and degreased it per instructions. I left all of the rest of the factory grease on the remaining parts. I had to adjust one of the timing paws to get it to time correctly. I loaded 101 pieces of .45 ACP using Lee dies and the Hornady powder measure and their primer system. Used CCI 300 LP primers and didn't have one issue priming. A little rough, but not any rougher than priming on my Lee Anniversary press. It went through all 101 cases without issue. All of my primers are below flush and straight on, no case damage, and consistent powder throws.

Well worth the cost for me. Now, granted, like I said, this is only 101 rounds, it's probably not even broken in, but it's working like a champ. I almost wish I had the case feeder too. Next time my budget allows I guess!
Whiskey11, If you get a casefeeder, and it runs like mine, you will be very happy with it. Mine works great, but you have to watch it because the casefeeder plate will jam occasionally. I have not had even one case drop wrong side up, and it does increase your load rate. I like mine. Good luck!

If you don't mind another question, what is the rotor and rotor body made out of in the powder throw?
Cast iron or machined cold rolled steel, or machined cast iron...basically it can rust.
A big problem I have with the Hornady LNL AP is they use LOTS of steel/iron parts that rust, and most don't have any paint or plating on them. You need to spend careful attention to the visible and assembled steel/iron parts to make sure they aren't rusting. I really have no idea why Hornady won't even nickel plate their steel/iron pieces...it would save so much hassle.
Invest in some dry lubricant if you buy a LNL AP...

I'm sure I will :) It's on the "Someday" list with the bullet feeder.

Went shooting yesterday and I have to admit, that the 101 .45 I loaded up on the LNL AP shot better than my LEE, but I am attributing that to the slightly longer COAL that they came out to be (1.27" instead of closer to 1.25") as I'm not sure the powder throw was that much more consistent.

That said, I loaded up 240 .45 ACP to the same specs after my shooting session yesterday in approximately an hour and the only issue I am having now is with case ejection and I'm going to go ahead and say it's because I'm using the #1 plate for .45 ACP instead of the #45 plate that you are SUPPOSED to use. It's not a huge hassle as it's probably 1 in 15 cases that get hung up and a quick nudge puts them in the bin. All of my .308 cases that I have dry cycled through the press ejected flawlessly.

I really need to invest in another primer tube so reloading is quicker, but 240 rounds in an hour is a sight faster than doing it on ye-olde-singlestage. It's also a bit more entertaining for my mechanically inclined brain to watch all the fun happen (yes I'm that easily entertained). Of course my reloading session was cut short due to an absence of bullets which I'm going to fix right about... now!

For what its worth, I got my L'n'L yesterday, its my first progressive. I learned how to reload on a buddies 550b, i instantly hated that it didnt auto index, but thats beside the point. After watching all the videos, I set up my LnL, and set up my 357 load. I was very curious how the priming would go... went through 50rounds without a problem at all, I thought it primed very well, and was shocked at how easy it was to change from large to small primers.

I bought a lnl last summer as a first progressive. When i first got it I had every issue I think you could have except the high primer problem. I figured everything out, this is how I found this forum ( this place was a big help ) Now everything runs perfect. I added the case feeder and after some tweeking it runs great. A lot of my issues were do to me being new to progressives. I have loaded with a single stage for years. I now find single stage loading slow and boring :)

I watched the hornady set up video on youtube. There was 12 parts but it addressed the majority of the issues most people run in to like timing being off etc. I believe the same or similar video comes with the press. I never pulled the dvd out of its case to see what it was about. Don't forget the LNL AP comes with 500 free bullets for the cost of shipping! I lost my receipt otherwise I would have got mine...

Contact the company you purchased it from they should provide you with another receipt, I had to do it with the powder dispenser to get the free 100 bullets.

That'd be Cabelas, as in I walked in to the store. I'm not sure if they keep or can get a receipt for in store purchases. I'll ask next time I'm in the store. I really wouldn't mind those 500 .45 200 gr HP hollow points :D
