Hornady Powder Measure case Expander

I really would like to know if Dan's product will work with the older style powder measure like mine which has the angled spring.

Or do I just need to buy the short spring and attachment point?

I'd give them a call or email...contact information is on the site. I don't use the LNL but I can tell you that the universal funnel is merely intended to replace the Hornady OEM PTX.

I have both Hornady and the new LNLPTX.
The Hornady worked fine for me in 9mm and 45 loading Berry and rainier plated. I am adding a RCBS bullet feeder and needed more case flare. I think RCBS manual calls for .080 flare for it to hold bullet. Lots more than normal, seems excessive. LNLPTX will flare to any width including side split.

I know I'm posting a bit late to this thread, but I thought I would add what I have learned about the Hornady PTX, for the sake of those who find this thread while researching the product.

I have the Hornady PTX for my LNL-AP. I immediately had problems with it. To be clear, the part I have has no ability to flare the case, whatsoever. The end that goes into the case is rounded on the end, and is .352in in diameter from where the rounded part ends to the first 90 degree step, where the case mouth stops. This may adjust the inside of the case to a good diameter for gripping the seated bullet, but provides no assistance when seating the bullet. If a jacketed or plated bullet with a rounded or bevelled bottom is being seated, this may present no problem whatsoever, but I, unfortunately, am not using such bullets. I'm using .356in lead bullets and .355in flat bottomed, jacketed hollow points. The lead bullet gets its lube grooves shaved off and the jacketed bullet cuts a narrow notch out of the side of the case about every other time.

On a more positive note, I love my press. It's built like a tank. With the exception of an occasional hang-up of the priming system, which may be operator induced (not sure yet), I have discovered no other flaws. I have the part sold at PowderFunnels.com on order, which, by all accounts, will solve my flaring problem handily. Also, the powder-through flaring is only important if you want to use both a taper crimp die and the powder cop die. If either of those isn't important to you, then there are enough stations to install the flaring die that came with your die set, which is what I'm using for now.

If anyone from Hornady reads this post, please modify this part so that it is capable of flaring the case. It is of no use to me, in its current form.

Regards

Just use your regular expander that came with the die set in station 2 right before it gets to the powder measure in station 3. Problem solved, and you don't have to worry about continually adjusted the amount of bell.

I have now used the powder funnel aftermarket part for about 1K rounds in 9 & 45. I works as advertised. But can really overflare if set wrong. I needed the extra flare for the RCBS bullet feeder. The H ptx was fine for me in 9mm w/ plated Rainiers.

We took Sinjin's stock Hornady powder drop/ expander and put it in a lathe. Following the pattern of the same part from a Dillon powder drop, I cut a taper into the Hornady part just above the .352 diameter section, effectively removing the square shoulder. From all reports, the modification works beautifully.

Now, like the Dillon, Sinjin can easily dial in any size case mouth belling he desires by simply raising or lowering the stock Hornady powder drop die to determine how far the case is pushed up over the wedge section.

Anybody interested in a similar mod can contact me by PM.
