Has anyone tried loading .45 ACP using the .45 caliber 250 grain SST bullet? The only way I know to get the projectiles loose is to buy them with sabots in the ML aisle...

do some homework before attempting this as there are several different diameters of .45 bullets. too little gets disappointing accuracy, too large invites catastrophy. .45acp is .452 and i think you might be looking at .458 bullets. be careful there. i see no advantage anyway.

Both the 250 and 300 grain .45 SST's available as muzzle loader components are .452" diameter. As far as I know, the only way to get the 200 grain SST's is loaded in 460 S&W ammo, which would also be .452" diameter.

So the 300 grain might not be the best starting point, but I don't see any reason the 200 grain version wouldn't be just fine and the 250 might not be a bridge too far.

I guess the short answer is "No, nobody here has tried it"...

If you want a true pistol bullet go with the hornady XTP's....they work great shot out of a muzzleloader. I actually like them better than the SST's....they hold up much better when they hit bone.
