They make it in 9x18 Makarov. That's all I needed to know before buying it. I've been carrying it for about 2 months. It's hard to find high-quality defensive ammo in 9x18, but Hornady stepped up to the plate. Right now, it's either Hornady or Buffalo Bore.

I haven't done any tests but I've researched ammo quite a bit and the top choices for my SD are critical defense and speer gold dot. Gold dots in warmer months abd critical defense in the cold Minnesota winter months. Both feed well in all my pistols.

PS the critical defense line isn't really that new, its been out for awhile. A few years I believe.

I have seen some packs of 50 in 9x19 @$38 marked 'For law enforcement use only' . Given today's insane ammo prices that is pretty competitive price.

Even if they load it the price will likely be higher then 9x19. I would drop that chambering if I were you. Got rid of my Russkie years ago.

PabloJ, it's in the same price range as all the other self-defense ammo I've seen. Not overpriced at all. I'm not dropping it. I have 3 pistols in 9x18 and love the caliber, and I trust a military pistol over any of the various commercial .380's out there. My father and I both carry Polish P-64's.

Oops! Forget my earlier post.... I read too fast and thought you were asking about critical DEFENSE not duty. Sorry!

Barrel Length

The Critical Duty ammo is among the best in the industry IMO. However, the ballistic stats/results are based on 'full-size' length barrelled pistols and that may or may not be a factor for those considering the load for CCW.

Personally, Hornady's Critical Duty has now become my go-to SD/HD/CCW ammo.

-Cheers
