It would be hard to fine a better example of the need for layered security, awareness, etc. than this horrible example. The doctor was knocked on the head while sleeping, and things rapidly deteriorated from there. Ugly stuff folks. The indcident happened in 2007, and my apologies if it has already been covered.

An exerpt from abcnews.com, Hayes and Komisarjevsky were the attackers:

In July 2007, authorities said Komisarjevsky followed Jennifer Hawke-Petit and her two daughters from a grocery store, returning later with Hayes.

Hayes, 47, was accused of sexually assaulting and strangling Hawke-Petit. Komisarjevsky, 30, is charged with sexually assaulting Michaela. The two allegedly tied Michaela and Hayley to their beds, poured gasoline on and around them and set the house on fire, killing them.

The wife was raped then strangled, and the 11 yr-old dagher was raped before both daughters were set on fire.

The primary lesson here, in my opinion, is to make darn sure people like this can't just walk into your house, even in a nice neighborhood. Secondly, if this does happen, don't just let yourself be tied up with your two daughters and wife left to fend for themselves. Heck, even if they shoot you, maybe the neighbors will hear the shots.

just do a forum search for "Hawke-Petit" -- returns 14 threads, about half of which are locked.

If I recall correctly, the guys were well equipped to break in silently.

Hells fires can't be stoked hot enough for these two.

Even if the husband had a gun under his pillow, he didn't have a chance to get it.

A good alarm system is what they needed.

OBTW... both were prior offenders who met in a halfway house after getting out of the clink.... so the state of CT could have dealt with them earlier if they had anything resembling a real criminal justice system.

I truly hope that these two perps will be subjected to what they doled out over and over every day for all of eternity in their special place in hell. Taking it one step further, this is why I believe in "pulling the root".

This is why I tell my wife that she needs to carry inside and outside of the house. Of course she thinks I'm off my rocker, but it's not just the two legged SOBs. I've been seeing stray dogs running together in small packs in the wee hours of the morning in our neighborhood. I think it is just a matter of time one of those packs attack or kill someone in our neighborhood.

I'm afraid this is "yesterday's newspaper", and not to appear rude, I think the discussion has neither been relevant to Strategies and Tactics nor highly productive.
