Let me begin by saying that I purchased my CZ 75B approximately six months ago and love it. Feels good, shoots where it's pointed and so far, after approximately 1,000 rounds, hasn't had a missfire. But.......

I was at the range earlier this week shooting the 75B seated at a bench. Was wearing my everyday tri-focals and everything was going great until the "B" decided to flip a hot brass just right to go between the right top of my glasses frame and eyebrow, landing directly on my eye lid! At this point, things began to happen rather quickly. I grabbed for the brass (still glued to my eyelid) and hit my glasses instead. I then jerked my glasses away from my face and grabbed the sizzling piece of brass. I then realized that I no longer had the 75B in my hands. I looked down and it was on the ground between my feet. My first reflex apparently was to shuck the pistol and address the pain. My eyelid felt like it was on fire and was very painful for a half hour or so....thankfully no damage was done.

Lesson learned? I'll never again pull the trigger on a pistol without having a pair of glasses that fit closely to my forehead......mine normally do but apparently had worked themselves down from all the perspiration and activity.......a head band seems like the sensible solution. I had always considered eye protection was for the straight on hit....never dreamed it would be possible to flip a 9mm casing between the glasses and the eye lid!

I have several auto pistols and the 75B seems to be the only one that has chosen to eject the casing directly to the rear. Anyone else had this to happen?

They usually go down a shirt collar, and yes, they're hot when coming out of a semi-auto firearm. Just another reason for good eye protection.

Glad you didn't have any permanent damage.

.22rf brass will 'stick' to skin. Kinda distracting when in a string of sustained fire.

salty

My .45 used to do the same thing. It would bounce the hot brass off my forehead. My solution was to wear a ballcap with the brim pulled snug to the glasses and make sure your shirt is button up. Hot brass on a nipple sucks!

I was shooting at an indoor range and next to me was a young lady shooting a 9mm. One of her "hot brass" fell down her collar and lodged inside of her bra! She sure could hop. The comotion attracted my attention and I went over to see what was the matter. By this time, things had cooled off and she had a sheepish grin on her face and told me what had happened. I told her if I had known sooner I might have tried to get the hot brass out of her bra.

My CZ 75B ejects them quite far, in a wide arc perpendicular to the bore. Shooting IPSC matches, I never even see the brass. But, at the range, it can be a bother if someone else comes and sets up to my right. Policing my brass can be a chore.

I haven't had any brass up in my face though.

I recommend the "extra" power extractor spring: cheap, easy to replace and very likely to improve the trajectory. :D

Also an 'ol codger'. Mine used to land in my shirt pocket.

Yes, you can armor your face, or replace the spring.

I had the same thing happen with a Walther GSP target pistol. It flipped a .22 casing up and burnt right where the bridge of my glasses was at the top of my nose. I've felt hot brass before and I quickly set my pistol on the bench and removed my glasses, letting the brass fall to the ground. However, it never landed on my eyelid.

I had the same exact thing happen to me,but mine rolled past my eyelid lower onto my cheek and stayed there.I know i was swatting at my face and trying to hit the saftey on the pistol and lay it down as fast as possible. My glasses ended up a few feet from me after i swatted them off.
The range official had a little chuckle watching me dance around like i had ants in my pants.I guess i didnt learn my lesson yet as i didnt buy something to go over my glases yet.But now that you remind me im gonna start looking into it.

oh yeah happened countless times lol

my glock 19 flings brass into my face now and then, you get used to it.

the trick is to keep the gun pointed in safe direction as you get it out of your eye ;)

Having a hot ejected case come back at your head is an occasional hazard. I too have had one lodge between my glasses and cheekbone, and it left a mark. If, however, your gun does this on a regular basis, it needs attention.

Small things to be thankful for, #2678:

It was 9mm and not .45ACP. The .45's thicker & heavier base holds heat longer than the 9mm.

9mm hurts - don't get me wrong - and I've done the hot brass dance once or twice from 9mm down a shirt front. But the day a fellow's .45 brass dropped down the back of my neck into a tucked-in polo shirt and lodged near the kidney area....well, I couldn't get that shirt out of my waistband fast enough. Raised a whelp on the skin.

Don't do like I do and try to pick up brass right after its ejected from an M1 Garand - now that was some hot brass.

Same doggone thing happened to me while shooting a Steyr M9 benched. The hot brass flew back and wedged between my shooting glass frame and the side of my head. I still have a small scar from that one.

I had that happen with one of my 1911s at an indoor range a while ago. Empty .45 brass bounced off the port wall to jam it's self between my glasses and right eyelid. Of course, I immediately shut that eye...clamping down harder on a piece of hot metal that was already busy welding it's self to my skin. I had a nice half-moon scar there for a while...but it seems to be fading. I've since come to appreciate good earplugs and a ball-cap for indoor ranges...

My CZ75b seems content to just fling them down my shirt... :scrutiny:

My Neos likes to sling casings down my shirt, one time it did eject one right into my face. It plinked right off of my safety glasses. I shoot at an outdoor range with a roof covering the stalls, the sigma chucks brass up to the roof and half the time it whacks me on the head.

My fiancee's SIG threw brass in her shirt just like the story by rockdoc806. She actually had burns on her ........ Well, use your imagination.

My CZ75 launches my brass at least 20' to my right. The recoil spring is too light in my opinion. Maybe a limpwrist problem? And I'll third the ball cap idea:cool:

Well, I've only been to the range a few times, but the first thing I was told when I booked my class was to wear long sleeves and no low neck shirt, and to wear a visored cap. After hearing all the brass plinking off the visor I know I'll never shoot at the range without my cap!
