Me, my DIL, and our friend all killed our deer this last week with the Speer Hot Core, and IMR-7828.

We were all shooting .270 win., my DIL on her new Tika Lite, me a Ruger American, and our friend a Rem. 700. Each of our deer had an entrance and exit wound.

My DIL killed her deer with a perfect shot from 466 yards. She blew his heart and lungs up, and the bullet exited through the opposite shoulder. I shot mine from a bit over 200 yds., neck shot, no bone involved, just blew his throat out, he dropped right there and bled out. Our friend shot his at 335 yds, perfect heart lung shot, in and out through the shoulders.

I've been hunting with the Speer Hot Core for over 3 decades, and it has never failed to perform flawlessly. Accuracy has commonly been 1/2" or better from most rifles I've developed for, and penetration is nothing short of amazing, even on elk.

Always had good luck with hot cors. In Michigan our long shots are shorter than your close shots! From powder burn distance to 150 yards we have had good results with .250, .284 and 30 cal. Only time we don't have exits is on full length shots.

Congrats on your successful hunt. It takes a lot of confidence to shoot at those distances and yall nailed it!

I was elated when I noticed that Speer had quietly quit pushing the Deep Curls and companion Federal Fusion bullets, and Hot Cores started coming back.
I too have had great performance and have great respect for the Speers.
My favorite is the 200 grn .338". Followed by the 120grn .257".
Keep impact velocities under ~2,800 fps and you'll wonder how the other bullet makers stay in business.
In my .260Rem, the Speer 140grn HotCore is the stand out.
Because they are the least expensive " premium " bullet, people loose respect for them, just like the original Remington CorLokts.

I will drink to that!

They're also what I use in my 270. Accuracy is excellent and they're excellent on deer, etc.

I could shoot nothing but 130 grain Speer HotCor bullets in my 270's the rest of my life and I would never complain. I've tried Sierra, Nosler, Hornady and Berger but none give better performance on game than the Speer. The performance of the Speer is very predictable and I am glad that Speer is making a lot of them again.

Hot-core 165 gn in my 30-06 killed my mule buck 6 weeks ago. Shattered the near leg, scrambled the lungs, shattered the far leg and came to rest lodged in a piece of leg bone pressed against the hide on the far side. The recovered bullet weighs 153 grains.

That's exactly the kind of performance I've come to expect from the Hot Core Splattergun. I recovered a 130 gr. from an elk way back in the 1980's, which was when I first started using the Hot Core, and that bullet retained over 90% of it's weight. I haven't been too eager to try other bullets since that elk, and when I have, I've never experienced any better performance. And other than the elk, I've not had the opportunity to recover another one, they've always exited.

One can spend twice as much for other bonded's or solid's, but IME, they won't likely out perform the Hot Core.
