Recently purchased a 24/7 Pro in 45 ACP (short barrel with stainless upper). First saw it at the 05 NRA show held in Houston. Liked it then and when they started showing up at the gun shows I could not resist. Besides, I needed a 45 ACP for the CDP Division of IDPA and I have grown so accustomed to running a striker fired Glock that I thought I would stick with something similar. The problem is that I am an incurable tinkerer, and feel there is room for improvement in the 24/7 firing system. I would like any information or direction to information on Hot Rodding this pistol. I have already taken it apart and put it back together and can see where polishing etc. in certain areas could help, but I am also interested in reducing the pull. Mine is presently 6.25-lbs in SA and 6.50-lbs in DA. Mine is a “Pro” model, which shoots in SA after a round is chambered, but retains the DA ability if a misfire occurs. From what I can see it looks like the SA sear is set to the rear of the DA sear. This would cause the striker spring to be compressed more in SA mode than in DA mode. It also appears that if the SA sear was removed, you would have a DAO pistol. I question the benefit of the DA re-strike mode as I think I would automatically perform a malfunction clearance (Tap, Rack, Bang) before I thought about stroking the trigger a second time. It looks like they took a DAO pistol a cleverly turned it into a SA pistol by adding something instead of a redesign. It seems there always a talented smith that figures out how to improve on the factory item. There are plenty for the Glocks and now some for the Springfield XD. Looking for a Guru on the 24/7 or possibly a Taurus insider who happens to work on these. I would also be interested in knowing if there are any adjustable night sights that will fit this model. Did a search and did not find any, but the 24/7 may have the same sight cuts as another more common model made by Taurus or another manufacture. The 24/7 has a thumb safety and it seems to me that on the “Pro” SA model it makes good since to use it. The striker is cocked on the “Pro” model after a round is chambered, but unlike the Springfield XD there no grip safety or trigger surface safety to decrease the chance the trigger might be accidentally tripped. It does of course have a drop safety, but this would not help if something snagged the trigger. I am destined to monkey with this pistol and will post any attempts and the results.
Thanks - TEX

Keep us posted as I would be interested in your results. I theoretically have bought one from Buds Guns on Gunbroker, but their "ships in 7 days" is rapidlly approaching 14 days. They were telling me it was day 7 still on day 8, 9, 10....

TEX,

Very interesting post. I don't have a 24/7 yet, but I do have a PT-145 Millennium Pro. I too wonder about replacement sights, not necessarily adjustable, but at least good tritium night signts. I wonder if the replacement sights for Glocks would fit the 24/7. I dont know anything about the Glock sighting system attachment method, but I am guessing that the 24/7 sight system attachment method is the same as my PT-145. I would guess that the 24/7 could be modified by a gunsmith/machinist to accept the Glock sights but I dont know for sure.

As far as the trigger, on my Millennium Pro, the more I shoot it the smoother it has become. I am at over 3000 rounds and the trigger is buttery smooth.

If you find out, please let us all know!!

Thanks in advance!

Ditto, the 27/7 is next on my list, I recently bought the PT145 and love it...

I just cancelled an order for a PT-111 from Buds. After waiting 8 days and still they hadn't even charged my credit card. Good prices but I won't give them my business anymore.

Actually, thery're not. The Glock rear sights are dovetailed into the slide, while the PT-145 sights are held on by a screw.:uhoh:

I looked into this with Tru-Glo sights, but was told by the company that they couldn't be adapted, partially because the height was different on the 145 than on a Glock. Not sure I want to gamble $100 that I can adapt them.:(

Which is to say they are not the same as on the PT-145.

Just picked up a 24/7 PRO in 9mm. Like the trigger and the external saftey. Haven't shot it yet but will be good to compare with my Springfield XD9 tactical.

How does the trigger compare to the XD? Lighter/heavier? Longer/shoter?

KONY,

I used to own an HS2000 (XD before Springfield took it over) and for the most part they are similar except the 24/7 takes a good deal more lbs to release the striker. This applies only to the "Pro" model which has a pretentioned striker and fires in SA mode after a round is chambered. The reset seems shorter on the 24/7 than what I remember on the XD. The trigger has to be slightly closer to the palm or web of the hand before it fires as opposed to the XD. For folks with big hands this might be a drawback. I had a fellow shooter who almost could not get my KelTec P9 to fire because of this decreased span between the finger and web of the hand. The 24/7 trigger is more curved thanthe XD and your finger falls to the center of it easier it seems. My 24/7 does not seem to have any overtravel where the XD did have a little. Out of the box, I think the XD has a better trigger. If I can get the trigger pull safely down to 3.5-4.0 lbs then I think it will be better than the XD, better than a tuned Glock, but probably not quite as crisp as a really good 1911.

After shooting a good 1911 trigger everything else is crap by comparison :)

I certainly like the XD trigger better than my Glock 17 or 21 triggers -- even with the 3.5lb connectors.

I thought the PT145 had a pretty good trigger for what it was, but the 24/7 PRO seems a worthwhile improvement over the prior 24/7 or Milleniums. I'd like to see Taurus move this 24/7 PRO trigger system to the smaller guns.

I'm not much of a DA shooter but I was very happy with the way I hit with the PT145.

Supposedly my 24/7 shipped Friday after my telling them ship it or cancel. No more purchases from Buds for me either. I will get to the range next week and see how it runs. Meanwhile I decided to go ahead and grab an XD in 45 ACP. Funny how both guns seem to appeal to the same people. Interesting things are going on in polymer these days.

:D
