Recently purchased a 24/7 Pro in 45 ACP (short barrel with stainless upper). First saw it at the 05 NRA show held in Houston. Liked it then and when they started showing up at the gun shows I could not resist. Besides, I needed a 45 ACP for the CDP Division of IDPA and I have grown so accustomed to running a striker fired Glock that I thought I would stick with something similar. The problem is that I am an incurable tinkerer, and feel there is room for improvement in the 24/7 firing system. I would like any information or direction to information on Hot Rodding this pistol. I have already taken it apart and put it back together and can see where polishing etc. in certain areas could help, but I am also interested in reducing the pull. Mine is presently 6.25-lbs in SA and 6.50-lbs in DA. Mine is a “Pro” model, which shoots in SA after a round is chambered, but retains the DA ability if a misfire occurs. From what I can see it looks like the SA sear is set to the rear of the DA sear. This would cause the striker spring to be compressed more in SA mode than in DA mode. It also appears that if the SA sear was removed, you would have a DAO pistol. I question the benefit of the DA re-strike mode as I think I would automatically perform a malfunction clearance (Tap, Rack, Bang) before I thought about stroking the trigger a second time. It looks like they took a DAO pistol a cleverly turned it into a SA pistol by adding something instead of a redesign. It seems there always a talented smith that figures out how to improve on the factory item. There are plenty for the Glocks and now some for the Springfield XD. Looking for a Guru on the 24/7 or possibly a Taurus insider who happens to work on these. I would also be interested in knowing if there are any adjustable night sights that will fit this model. Did a search and did not find any, but the 24/7 may have the same sight cuts as another more common model made by Taurus or another manufacture. The 24/7 has a thumb safety and it seems to me that on the “Pro” SA model it makes good since to use it. The striker is cocked on the “Pro” model after a round is chambered, but unlike the Springfield XD there no grip safety or trigger surface safety to decrease the chance the trigger might be accidentally tripped. It does of course have a drop safety, but this would not help if something snagged the trigger. I am destined to monkey with this pistol and will post any attempts and the results.
