My attempts at achieving accuracy with sabots drove me to slow twist barrels and patched roundballs. With sabots, the point of impact with a clean cold barrel was almost always the wildly different than when the barrel was dirty. Then, from the dirty barrel, you'd get 3 or 4 shots that made some kind of group before the thing was off to the races again.
The second part is pretty identical to my gun. I have always fouled my bore (because I was instructed to sometime in the past) so I don’t know what a clean cold bore shot will do.
Thanks for all the replies. It appears I have been doing the bare minimum with my muzzleloader and it has barely been working out for me. Hey, I’ve never missed a deer with it. I have many things to consider and practice with. Loose powder, different sabots, cold bore shots, etc. Time for some load development.
