Hi gang. I got a load of empty sabot in a large plastic bag obtained in with a bunch of reloading supplies about 10 years ago. Eventually I worked out that they were .45 cal sabot with .38 cal centers. I am able to hunt on my own land and have a very nice .45 cal black powder rifle I often use. Sometimes I was able to reload the sabot after they showed up on the grass post-firing.

But I'm starting to run out of these plastic sabot and I am having trouble finding more in this size. The deer here are smallish (dressing out at about 100-140 pounds) and my ranch is cluttered with them. JHP .38 (.357) slugs work great at 100 yards or so. I've also had a little success with smaller spitzer or round nose FMJ rounds on turkeys at longer distances. I really prefer sabot shooting all the time now that I'm set up for it, and cleaning is so much easier.

I haven't been able to find any "load your own" .45/.38 sabot around my area and so I wonder if anyone knows of a source for them. I am also wondering what the shipping requirements are for Pyrodex now-a-days because the local quarterly gun shows have moved to an exposition hall that's quite far away from me and with the cost of gas being what it is, I'd like to find an online source and get the stuff shipped to me (same for the sabots). Anyone who knows of good sources for these please let me know. Thanks

As far as ordering powder goes, no matter who you order from, you will pay an additional Haz-Mat charge of $20 to $30 for any type of powder. That sucks, but you can usually get the powder much cheaper than you can locally, so by ordering 3 or more jugs of powder you can save the cost of the Haz-Mat fee.

When ordering sabots or powder, some of the best sources I've used are Cabelas, Midsouth Shooters Supply, MidwayUSA, and Grafs.
