How are the late model S&W Sigmas?

I know that S&W Sigmas had their growing pains, but I have noticed more people here saying they were a decent gun rather than trashing them. I'd like to hear the experiences of people who have purchased late model Sigmas (particularly in 9mm). My brother is trying to buy a Glock 19 on a budget and I'm not finding any below $450ish. So I want to find out if a Sigma is an alternative.

Don't look for a cheap alternative to the Glock 19. Look for a factory reconditioned or used 19 or 17. (I've heard that the newer SIGMAs are pretty good guns, but have no direct experience.) But there are too many used Glocks floating around in the under $400 range.

I'd stick with the Glock or Springfield XP, before I went with the Sigma. Try the sale boards at glocktalk.com for deals on Glocks.
