How can it be that Sig is so good?

Did you buy the gun new and have you shot it a lot?

No, I bought the gun used from my FFL, I put about a hundred rounds through it, and I was impressed with the reliability. It never jammed or misfired once. But the trigger creep and gritty trigger action were a constant distraction. I was thinking that maybe I just got a lemon, and was thinking of getting one of the newer DAK action Sigs

I forgot to mention a couple things. The P228 and P229 models are rather a wide grip for their size, and do not feel quite the same as other pistols in Sig's line.

I feel that the gun is a little bulky for my hand as well. In other words, its hard to reach the slide release, mag eject and decocker without adjusting my grip on the weapon, which can skew your shots if your in a hurry or stressed situation while trying to defend yourself. What I liked about this particular model was that you can swap out the barrels from .357 to .40. Almost like having two guns. Is there another model with that feature that may fit my hand better?

I've had SIGs, and liked them. (P-220, P-239, GSR and P-210-6.) I only have a GSR, right now, and will probably keep it for a long time. Until I tried an Ernie Langdon-tuned SIG, I never met a SIG that I though had a good DA-to-SA transition. His guns are great. Were he still doing SIGs, I'd probably have one again.

The new SIG DAK trigger is great. I may still get another SIG, one of these days because of the DAK trigger.

I've had Glocks, and liked them. My favorite, the only one I still have, is a 34. I shoot it better, in competition, than any gun I've got.

I've had bunches of other guns.

My personal preferences (except for the 34) are CZs and CZ clones -- and have a number of them. They fit my hand better than any gun I've ever shot. They point better. (For some reason, I'm a hair faster with the 34.)

SIGs are good. Other guns are good.

I think the only reason that we get into heated debates in these kind of discussions is that some of those folks (mostly male) seem to think their handgun is an extension of their sexual organ.

They are not extensions.

Shoot'em all and enjoy'em all.

No kidding. HOW DARE YOU INSULT MY WANG SURROGATE!

I personally don't care for Sigs, except the P210. I think they tend to be overrated by die-hard fans, who sometimes just seem like a snobbier version of Glockaholics, or a less "tactically"-fixated version of HKers, or less archaic version of 1911 or wheelgun nuts.

Did I leave anybody out? :neener:

Lou the cop from the Simpsons did say this after they took everyones guns away in Springfield, "This gun used to make me feel like a man. Now all I've got are my enormous genitals." :what:

P.S. Don't ever get the short trigger for the P239 though, because it's a bit TOO short for the gun and the front strap will stop the travel of your finger before it fires.

lunaslide, that is not always the case. It depends upon the size of the user's hand. I have two 239s. One has the short trigger and one has the standard. I prefer the short one and will be replacing the standard trigger soon.

After avoiding Sigs for many years because I had lots of other guns, CZ's, HK's, BHP, etc. I finally bought a used P228 at a good price. Its a joy to shoot. Not that its any more accurate or more reliable (its been 100%) than the others, it just feels good to shoot, has a nice trigger and is built like a tank. I find I'm carrying it a bit more than the others.

The P226, P229 and P239 can all use .40 and .357. The P239 is single stack, holds 7+1 and is basically made to be a carry piece. That said, it's a really nice carry piece to shoot and fits the hand well.

The full size P226 is about the size of a standard 1911, but has a double stack 12 round .40 or .357 mag, and might be better suited to you. This and the P220 fit my hands better than the P228 and P229.

Understood. It was the regional Sig sales rep who warned me of this problem, so it's at least something to be aware of. It would most likely be true for me with my hands.

You might be right, and I am undoubtedly a Sig fanatic. But it doesn't mean I'm wrong ;)

I have a Sig 239. Love it. Now lusting after a Sig 228/229, since the AWB has passed away. Wouldn't mind acquiring a 230/232 either.

That said, I also have a Glock 19 that I enjoy very much, a Beretta 92FS that I also enjoy, and a brace of Smith revolvers that I may love more than the Sigs.

So, as you can see, I'm a super snob because if it's not Sig/Glock/Beretta/Smith, than it's not worth a darn. :neener:

Sigs are very nice, but so are the rest. Shoot what you like. You can sell me the rest...cheap. :D

I recently purchased a Sig p220- used but in fine condition. No dings, rust, only wear on the barrel that would come from normal use.
That said, I have not shot it that well. I do much better with my Glock 20 AT THIS POINT. I attribute it to:
Insufficient range time- only 200 rounds so far.
Possibly not the best ammunition- Magtech 230gr FMJ.
Unfamiliarity with the trigger.
Weight- it's stainless, vs the Glock.

That said, I AM improving over the short span I have had it. The first outing was atrocious. I had heard all the tales- "Most accurate pistol out of the box." I was in a hurry and I think I expected the 10 ring to disappear all by itself. Next session was better, third better still- this still using the Magtech. I have some brass worked up and plan to reload some different weights/velocities and see what it likes best. I do have a new recoil spring on order. The original seems to be in good condition, but I have no idea how many cycles it has seen. All in all, it is a "real piece of work." I think it is a case of the shooter can't outshoot to pistol.

Yes, the weight differences from Sig and Glock is quite significant. The difference is even more as you shoot more during a session because you'll get tired.

I put almost 700 rounds of ammo downrange last Sunday and my shoulders were slightly sore. :D

But I find that the Sig helps more in the recoil department than the lighter Glock.

Both are damn accurate pistols and I can honestly say that I would trust my life to either one.

I love my SIG P-220!!!!!!

I am in a corrections officer acadamy in Florida and at this time we are going through firearms training.
I have been a 1911 shooter for over 15 years and enjoy as much range time as possible.Recently I traded in my 1911 for a SIG P-220 .45acp.I have not had as much time as I would have liked shooting it yet, but yesterday I had a chance to bring in my sig to shoot against one of my instructors.
We shot at 10in. metal plates @ 125yds. from the weaver stance.
I managed to hit the plate 43 out of 50 rounds with stock fixed sights and a completely stock gun. My instructor hit 38 out of 50 rounds with his glock 21 with a ported barrel and 3.5lb. trigger and 3dot night sights.
I have never shot a .45 at that distance before and didn't expect to hit such a small target.
This is the most accurate .45 I have ever shot and can recommend it to anyone who wants to hit what they aim at. I have put about 500rnds through it in the last 2 months without any FTF. SIG's ROCK!!!!! :D

Compared to other pistols i have owned and inspected Sigs just ooze quality, right down to the magazines. Disasemble one and inspect it inside out and compare it with other pistols. BTW my old P226 was the only firearm i ever owned that never malfunctioned in any way.

My three SIG's:
P226: 7,000 rds; 0 malf's; accuracy= 8"@15yds
P220: 2,500 rds; Many FTE's; accuracy= 1"@15yds
Trailside: 6,000 rds: 1 or 2 FTF; accuracy <1"@50yds.
I still own the Trailside.
(In all fairness to the P220, I believe it was unreliable because SIG had 'accuratized' it. It was a very tight gun and the lockup was amazingly solid. Also, the accuracy number above (P220) was in ChuckB's hands, not mine.)

I've got about 20 different handguns, auto pistols, wheelguns, derringers, single shots, etc. I've only got one Sig, a P220 (actually a Browning BDA 45), I bought it new, must have been around 20 years ago, if not longer. I carred it on a daily basis for 10 years when I lived in cooler climates. It's probably the most boring gun I own. It digests any ammo put in it, it's never had a single misfire or misfeed. It's reasonably accurate, I can keep all shots within a 6 inch circle at 25 yards, offhand with target/range ammo. I can do considerably better with one of my target pistols, but the P220 is not a target pistol and I don't hold it to those standards. Like the above poster said, it runs like a sewing machine, it never changes, never has problems and it's totally boring. I get the feeling that my Glock 22, which I aquired a few months ago, is going to be another boring gun like the P220 is.

After two years with my SIG P229 .40 I realized I was in love with it. It just suddenly dawned on me that it had not malfunctioned one single time since I've had it, and it's been through a good many thousand round range sessions with me.

So, I'm a serious SIG fan, and even though I really could not afford it I just bought a SIG P220, which is being shipped as I type. Should be at my FFL tomorrow some time.

I have two guns on my CCW permit, a Springfield Loaded (tm) full size stainless 1911, and my SIG P229.

Guess which one I carry most...

I'm wearing it now :)

I can't wait to see my new P220!

Amy

The only d/a autos I really like has been my Sig 220. If I could not have a 1911, the only other worthy 45 (in my book) is a Sig 220!

P.S. Don't ever get the short trigger for the P239 though, because it's a bit TOO short for the gun and the front strap will stop the travel of your finger before it fires.

Hogwash.

IMHO, and after thousands of rounds, of course...

Finally snapped a pic of the lil 230. I ditched the hogue finger groove grips and installed factory 232 grips and hogue allen head grip screws.

Many different modern centerfire autos are that reliable. Very seldom do you find an unreliable Sig, Glock, Walther CZ and so on.

You only sure to run into reliability issues with rimfires and some 1911's.

I still have my Browning BDA .45 (Sig P220E), that I bought in the late 70's. I call it my "Radar Gun", because it just seems to aim itself.

Great gun!

jeez, I feel so sorry for all the Sig guys in this thread. You guys just haven't seen the light yet have you.

The best guns and the best chocolate have something in common. They both come from Belgium. :neener:
Besides, who wears a watch anymore? Doesn't everyone have a Blackberry strapped to their waist :fire: (I HATE the one my company makes me carry)

P.S. what would you guys call good accuracy? When I fired mine at the range, I got 75% of the rounds within a 5" circle at 15 yards. I don't think thats all that impressive.

Depends on your perspective.

5" @ 15yards is about average for me.

However take in to consideration that's five to seven rounds sent downrange almost as fast as you can say "Sig Sauer".

Which gives me a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

I *heart* my Sig!
