How cheap should the finish on my SA mil spec be?

I just got a mil spec maybe 6 weeks ago and I have maybe 450 rounds through it. Pretty much everywhere that metal touches metal, the parkerized finish is coming off. Slide rails, slide stop, apparently the hammer is meeting the spur of the grip safety, because a wear mark is forming there, the barrel bushing is wearing the finish completely off the rim of the recoil spring plug.

Is this normal? So far, I'm not impressed with the parkerized finish. Its matte, and picks up lots of scratches.

Not to start a war (because I love both guns), but my glock is wearing MUCH better than my SA. The finish on the glock is very scratch resistant and I don't see it wearing off anywhere (granted, there isn't nearly as much metal on metal).

That amount of wear/polish (and where you are see it) sounds ball park for a parkerizied/blued finish. FWIW, the finish on the slide stop of my G27 wore off by about the end of my first range session with it. No big deal, but it would have been nice to have had as durable finish applied to it as the slide has.
Regards,
Greg

Springfield doesn't warranty their finishes. I know because I got a Range Officer with a terrible finish. I sent it to their custom shop for some work and had them re-park the slide...........the CS knows how to parkerize a slide. Looks much darker and has held up 100% better than the original finish.

If you ever send it in to the custom shop have them park' it - they only charge $45 for the slide or $80 for the whole gun.

Literally just put some money down on a stainless Loaded 20 minutes ago...hopefully I don't run into this problem!

The finish is going to wear where you described. Parkerizing is soft but holds oil very well. It was introduced for military weapons so they wouldn't reflect light. Don't spend another minute worrying about it. Any finish applied over the base metal is going to wear at metal to metal contact points (with the possible exception of industrial hard chrome). This is normal.

Your finish is fine. Wear happens. Parkerizing is nothing compared to Glocks mighty finish.
