A old lever gun with iron sights like a Winchester 30-30 . I always bring a lever gun as a backup rifle just in case.
Once sighted in most are good for generations.

IMO they don't care. At least on my property. I have cam pix and video footage of them milling around at the same time we are shooting, according to the time stamps on the game cams. Some cams were within 300 yards, some a bit farther, but definitely in hearing distance. This is a very common occurrence.
