I would like to replace the sights on a MKIII Hi Power, with some Trijicon 3-dot sights. Is it a difficult proposition to tap out the existing sights and tap in the new sights?

I don't know how tight they are pressed in place, so I don't want to attempt it, if they are really tight.

Thanks.

They are in pretty tight, it's really best to have a sight pusher for installation, particularly with tritium sights. Too much banging with a punch could damage the sights. My experience was trying to replace the sights with fiber optic sights. I pounded for about half a day, then dropped it off at the gunsmith.

Ditto. When I told my smith that I tried swapping them out myself, he just laughed. And then laughed some more. :p

I don't know how tight they are in their, but Trijicons are supposed to be the same dovetail size as factory MkIII sights. You might be able to do it yourself with a sight pusher... I can't imagine that a sight pusher would be too costly (Midway and Brownells both have them).

Let us know how you like the Trijicons, I'm considering some!

Thanks for the info. That's what I was wanting to know. I guess I'll send it to Novak's and get a trigger job at the same time.

Fumegator - I like the trijicons on the Hi Power. I already have a couple of pairs on two other HPs - a couple of ARS customized FN HPs, that were issued to Israel. They have a good sight picture and you don't need to have new dovetails cut. I also have Novaks on a HP and really like them, but I just wanted something less expensive on these particular MKIIIs. They are not as sleek as the Novaks - the profile is more similar to the factory MKIII sights (and the Glock Trijicon night sights), but they work just fine and have a sturdy appearance. (I would like for the front sight to be a tad thinner, though.)
