Hi-Power MKIII magazine safety removal

We like to call this "an old wives tale'... The FPS cut on the slide does not weaken it in any way. Not to mention that the majority of Israeli MkIII's are with the FPS, not without it...

Well I guess I'm an old wife then :p

Yet I will contend that a slide without the FPS cut is most definitely stronger than a slide with it. How much stronger and whether the applied forces come any where near taxing the frame or not, no one can say without testing or FEA analysis. But more metal trumps less metal every day.

I've personally never seen an surplus Israeli that had the FPS. But I'm no pro smith or collector, so that's not saying much.

Happy trails.

Oh ok awesome! I love that diagram it makes a lot more sense now that I can see what it actually looks like on the inside.... Thanks for the great diagram!

Your welcome and thanks for the compliment. I've 3D modeled 90% of the BHP in Solid Works, as well as several of the after market parts. Most all of what's available out there is done in graphic arts programs (i.e. mesh approximations). If you want to program a CNC or do any type of serious engineering, you need a mathematically driven model (i.e. nurbs format).

Not necessarily.

These are M1 operating rods. The top one has the most material and is the weakest. In fact, the bottom two variations have the most material removed, weight-wise, and are the strongest.

It's quite simple, SSN Vet - that area of the slide, where the FPS cut is, is of no concern when shooting high powered ammo. The problem is elsewhere - just do a little research where failures occurs. Hi Powers, with FPS or without, are just not suited for extensive use with high powered ammunition.
