How do you carry your Ruger SP101?

My SP 101 wears Hogues. I found the speed loader cutout on the originals burised the inside of my firing hand's thumb when firing full throttle 158's. The Hogues resolved the issue. I have a hammer spur but find I can group as good using DA with mine. That surprised me. I was previously carrying a .38 Mod 60 for years and shot it best SA (and as quickly as most shoot DA). But the SP 101 has a great DA trigger, stacks a little and works out great.

I tried an Uncle Mikes IWB open top over my appendix like I used with the Mod 60, but with the greater grip length and my build, the grips printed a bit with pull over shirts. I have since quit using a holster. I wear a 2" leather belt and just drop the revolver inside my britches and the grips snuggle in between my belly and belt and stay put. I've never had the revolver slip, even when running chasing after my Jack Russel terriers, climbing, working under vehicles, wading streams etc...

I do occasionally use the IWB holster as a shoulder holster in a homemade rig. I use a small cotton blend web belt from a mil surplus store buckled around my chest. I sewed a second piece of belting to make a loop over my shoulder to help control the belt around my chest. The open top IWB then tucks right in under my arm and the SP 101 stays put very well. Works great with dress shirts.

I also carry 1 HKS speed loader with 5 spare rounds in my left pants pocket.

Clipdraw at 1 o'clock, appendix carry. You can set the depth of carry and even with Hogue grips is disappears under a T-shirt. The gun is stainless so just keep it clean. I wipe mine down with a silicon cloth every time I handle or carry it and clean it frequently.

My buffed SP101.

Afterall, its for the kids. :D

More than 1 way

Currently, strong-side hip holster. Jacket over it for concealment. Remove the jacket, and I am open carrying. I am looking into an IWB.

OWB El Paso Sadlery Street Combat #88....thats just the one I happened to choose and I have been happy with it.

I have been looking at these for a S&W short barrel K frame....reports over on the S&W forum are very favorable...and pricing seems modest; correspondance with the maker has been pleasant. Check out the "Silver Dollar" for a SP101 :

Just bought a Clipdraw, haven't tried it yet. Good to hear people like 'em...

DiamondBack, is it a Medium sized Smartcarry?
Just curious.
....actually I don't own one. I was only answering the question as to where they can be found. Best to actually ask those who use one about attributes and size for the SP101. I frankly, like ankle carry, think it would be difficult to produce a handgun with any kind of reasonable speed from a Smart Carry...but an awful lot of folks swear by them....and as I have never used one my opinion is of little worth !

+1 for the Clipdraw

My SP101 is on me whenever my pants are, except at work due to their silly rules. The Clipdraw means I don't have to worry about removing a holster, or wearing an empty holster. I wear it at about 3:30 but usually scoot it up to about 2:45 when I'm driving. I quit carrying the Bianchi Speed Strip when I realized that with all the crap I always carry in my pockets, a regular speedloader isn't noticed.
