How do you load +1

I'm going to throw a slight twist on the advice above. I prefer to:
Insert a fully loaded magazine
Rack the slide chambering a round
Carefully holster the pistol
Remove the magazine while the gun is safely holstered
Top off the magazine
Re-insert fully loaded magzine while gun is still safely holstered

Well, at least that's the way DeWayne and Elizabeth teach it over at DES Training.

Have a nice day!

The proper method is to load your magazine, insert the magazine, rack the slide, engage the safety, remove your magazine, load one round & re-insert your magazine.

Fixed that for you. At least concerning pistols with safeties.

I use a Barney mag for IDPA to minimize the shuffling around.

I do not load defense weapons at +1.
I insert a loaded magazine, rack the slide, engage safety or decocker if so equipped, and go about my business. I have the perception that drag from the top round being chambered acts to preposition the next cartridge and will reduce the risk of it not feeding.
Maybe I am wrong, but I am comfortable that way.

The proper method is to load your magazine, insert the magazine, rack the slide, remove your magazine, load one round & re-insert your magazine.

While there are certainly many improper ways to do it, there is no one proper way. Any method that is not improper is proper.

The SMART method is to FULLY load your magazine, insert the magazine, rack the slide, APPLY SAFETY, PERFORM TACTICAL RELOAD, HOLSTER A FULLY LOADED GUN. THEN, load one round IN THE FIRST MAGAZINE, PLACE IN MAGAZINE POUCH.

The goal is and should be to get the gun fully loaded in the shortest, most efficient way possible.

In my Makarov (my EDC) I have a well worn factoy mag that will hold nine rounds with the slide locked back, but not with the slide closed. So I can load nine in a eight round mag put it in with the slide back, drop the slide, lock the safety and put it in the holster. Guess that doesn't work with most of your carry guns

Load the magazine. Chamber a round from the magazine. Drop the magazine, top it off, and reinsert.

That is the way that I have always done it.

One extra thing, though ... for doing this inside of the house I have a sand-filled 5gal bucket with lid affixed (2, actually, one, each, upstairs & down).

I point the pistol(s) at the top whenever I am "manipulating" them with live ammo.

I strip a round and insert and load the same round everytime. and yeah it sometimes sets back. Then top off mag

For years, I dropped a round in the chamber, dropped the slide, and loaded the mag. I never had a problem doing that, but that certainly didn't make it correct. Now I do it the proper way. Live and learn, and it wasn't a dumb question at all!
