How much ammo do you carry?

Option A. If 10 rounds of 45 don't do the job, well....I need more practice or it's just my time.

I go for option B. G26 with +2 extension gives me 12+1. I don't carry an extra mag. If 13 won't do it I'm in over my head.

The floating round is only a problem if you unload regularly. If it's not on me it's under the bed in the safe.

You are in over your head if your mag fails or gets dropped and kicked across the street under a car.

You would be better served with two mags holding 7 rounds each, then one mag holding 13 or 14!!

You will probably never need the extra ammo.

But Murphys Law says you WILL need the extra magazine if you only have one.

Carry a G19....top off the mag (15+1)....carry a spare 15 round mag.

To quote an old saying: "Has anyone ever complained after a gun fight that they had too much ammo?" :)

If I'm carrying a weapon that uses detachable magazines, and I have the real estate/clothing yardage to carry a second magazine for it, I do, and the extra ammunition is only a middling reason for it.

Magazines are the part of a weapon that is most disposable. They are by far the most likely part to be abused, the springs do need replacing occasionally if they see regular use, and it's not inconceivable that something could happen that would result in the mag getting broken or lost. If anything goes wrong with the gun, the single best corrective action you can take is to completely swap magazines and rack the slide hard. Can't correct one of the two potential problems if you decided you didn't need an extra magazine.

And besides all of that, in between the shooting and the police getting there, do you want to be sitting there in the open with an empty gun, defenseless against anyone who might happen to harbor ill will against you? Think your attacker can't have any friends nearby?

I guess it's just that I can think of a half dozen reasons to carry a second magazine regardless of how many rounds each one holds, and not a single reason other than incompatible wardrobe not to carry a second.

No one has introduced the "Average gunfight last three seconds and involved three rounds," argument. I always wonder if these guys carry a half-loaded revolver.

Option A here (for those that didn't read it right, it is one in the chamber, just have room for one more in the mag). I have no problems no having that topped off magazine. I've gone 44 years without carrying, I don't feel one round is going to make or break my existance. Nothing wrong with topping it off, but if your doing it thinking you may need it, where do you stop? Carry a spare mag? two? a Bug? Really? where do you live, maybe you should move (that's not directed at anyone)

I also have a full size spare tire, a tire plug kit and a small 12v compressor in my truck. I could just walk instead but I prefer to be prepared.

I have smoke detectors and fire extinguishers in my house but I could just sleep in the quarry down the road and not worry about fire.

I also have a good size first aid kit in the truck and at home because its not pratical to have an EMT or a physican with me at all times.

I choose to be prepared and accept responsibility for my own safety.

I top off with my carry firearms, option B. I usually carry sub-compact or low capacity firearms and don't carry a reload. If I'm carrying a full size gun in a shoulder holster and have reloads on the off side, I don't bother.

It depends on my overall capacity. If I am carrying my P95, I'll just carry an extra mag or two and not top off the mag. If I am carrying the LCP or P64, I'll top her off.

Crracer- with that train of thought, why carry at all? Just move to a secluded island, no one around means no danger, right?
Having the ability to carry as much ammo as possible, and is comfortable, and not doing it just seems silly. Is dropping the mag and adding another round that difficult?
Carrying a reload isn't always comfortable, but it sure is comforting knowing it's there.

Gun with 7 round magazine + 2x8 round magazines in horizontal pouches from Walmart as reloads.

I'll plus up pistols, but I don't mess much with rifles. They never seat right when you leave one in the chamber and try to keep 30 in the mag, they sometimes have a problem feeding with a full 30 to begin with... whatever works for you when you carry. Most of the time I just load the pistol with one magazine and go on my way. of course the "one is none" rule can always apply

I know the extra mag is more for mag failures than more rounds, but i've never had a mag failure. I know that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. I can carry enough equipment to account for every possible failure. I had carried an extra mag when I can but that is rare.
I have to ankle carry most of the time and an extra mag would get in the way when I'm working. The biggest advantage to carrying an extra mag would be for a double feed. If you have an extra you don't have to worry about retaining the mag when you clear the jamb.
Have you guys had mag failures in a Glock?

Defensive arms are always fully loaded, save for dry fire practice and cleaning. I always top off the magazine after chambering a round for each semiauto after each of those activities. When leaving the house with a semiautomatic pistol, there's at least one spare magazine that goes with.

The spare magazine(s) is more for my Uncle Murphy than for extra rounds.

I always carry one in the chamber and a full magazine in the gun.

I'd like to carry a spare magazine, but the lack of meaningful pockets in women's clothing and the fact that I don't wear belts makes that a problem to which I have not yet found a solution.

Well duh, your truck and house are doing all the work.

I keep tire plugs and a compressor on my motorcycle, if I'm going out of town. I believe my insurance company requires me to have smoke alarms in my house. I keep band aids and peroxide at home, battery cables too.

Oh, I see, so carrying a weapon with no extra mags, serves no purpose..... Got it
