How do you slow your benchrest rate of fire down?

On my old club range id shoot....open the action and then get up and roll my shoes on the grass.....look for brass for 5 mins. If sunny and hot, set rifle under the bench to shade it. Was not covered line and not on cement pads either. The jumping spiders were my buddies......wood top benches. The wasps.......messing around pipe legs/ frame,........not my buddies

I get so worked up about groups from my bolt action bench work...to describe my approach as "anal" is putting it mildly. It can be exhausting just thinking about it....the process is expensive and time consuming and if I'm not disciplined with my technique......it will be time wasted....i may be left a bit confused, not a good feeling at the bench.
