I reload 10mm Auto. My mother has a .40 S&W and she would like me to reload her empty brass. The problem is that I can't get my 10mm seating/crimping die to crimp the .40 S&W. It seems that the crimping ring is deeper in the die than the .40 can reach. Is there something I am missing? Why would the reloading companies sell dies that say "10mm/.40 S&W" if they can't crimp both?

Thanks,

Bringsteen

PS I am using Redding dies. I don't know if that makes a difference

You can pick up a Lee Factory Crimp Die for under $20 and that'll taper-crimp just fine. Regardless, you're going to need one in a 40cal because of the case-length difference you already noted.

Can you back the seating plug out, and screw the die body in farther? I like taking a factory loaded round, and adjusting the die down till contact with the case mouth, than adjust the seating plug down to the bullet:)

Someone with a lathe & a hand-grinder can take 3/16" off the bottom of the seating die, and then it will work for both.

Or, you can buy a .40 S&W Lee FCD for $12.89.
