Hi All
I know that the Gen 4 guns are marked on the slide, but how do you tell what generation other Glocks are?

Thanks
WB

Glock 3s are similar to the Gen 4 except the grip texture is different. They have the finger grooves and accessory rail.

Gen 2 Glocks do not have finger grooves or an accessory rail.

And good luck finding a Gen 1 Glock.

Basically...
Gen 1 = non-RTF, no finger grooves, no rail
Gen 2 = RTF1, no finger grooves, no rail
Gen 2.5 = RTF1, finger grooves, no rail
Gen 3 = RTF1 or RTF2, finger grooves, rail
Gen 4 = RTF3, finger grooves, rail, adjustable backstraps

The only thing you need to remember is that the Gen 2's are by far the best of the bunch....and they should have stopped there instead of re-inventing the wheel.

Nope, the Gen. 3 is the best.
Which is best is relative to which features are most important to you and this often is dependent as to which model.

What the Gen3 offers over the Gen2 are finger grooves on the front strap and a rail under the dustcover. But it you don't like finger grooves and don't use the rail, the Gen3 offers no advantage.

The Gen2 G19 that I have had the longest was both reliable and accurate and I never saw a reason to do much more than look at a Gen3 G19...and that was before the brass to face (BTF) issue became common knowledge.

The Gen3 features of the G22 contributed to the feeding issues when a weapon light was attached. These issues were addressed in the Gen4, but the fix created problems with the 9mm models (G17/G19)

As it applies to the G19, the Gen2 might well have been the best that Glock offered

Agreed...

I have an RTF2 17 and G319c that malfunction more than any gun in my home and I'm not talking about brass to the face. The 17 is a lot better than the 19 however both are not even close to being reliable enough to carry.

I have never been a big fan of most finger groove frames or grips as they never seem to fit my smaller hand size properly. So for me the Gen.1 and Gen.2 frames were the best fit and most comfortable Glocks to shoot.

Is all opinion.... But after putting about 3,000 rounds through my Gen 3 G34 and close to 15,000 through my Gen 2 G19 I can say that I prefer the Gen 2 much more.
I've never had the pleasure of shooting a gen 2 Glock (lots of gen 3s though) but have read a number of post where people claim to prefer the gen 2 to the gen3. Strictly out of curiosity, what about the gen 2 do you prefer?

Honestly, the grip is the main thing. Even if you think the finger grooves "fit", they usually don't. I'm even thinking about getting someone to do a grip reduction and stippling job to my Gen 3 G34 to make the grip feel better (and yes, I thought that it "fit" with the finger geooves). Add to that the other problems that have plagued some Gen 3s, and I just don't trust them as much.

Gotta be one of the most absurd proclamations I've ever seen on a forum like this!

Yeah, for me Gen4 is clearly the best for me, as its the first one that actually fits my hand well enough to shoot well for me out of the box. I've had no issues with it.

Gen 4 = RTF3, finger grooves, rail, adjustable backstraps
So then what makes my G26 a Gen 3 instead of a Gen 2.5, since no G26/27/33s have rails?

Really. My 17 has never failed. I think the millions of these in the hands of military and LEO all over the planet speaks another story! But, all are entitled to their opinion.

Should have made an notation for the subcompact frames (26/27/28/33/39), because they do not have rails no matter what Gen they are.

Gen 2.5 = no RTF1 on the front strap or between the finger grooves

I don't believe the G26 was made in the Gen 2.5 bunch.

There a low number of Glock 26, 27 & 28 that are Gen 2.5.
