How does S&W CS really work?

I send my PC952-2 back to the factory because it would not fire. When you pull the trigger (after pushing the safety forward of course), the hammer drops and click, no bang. No marks on the primer from the firing pin. I call S&W and they send me the free return mail slip. That's good. But, it's returned to me stating it was test fired and it passed. Plus, an attached hand written note on a business card: you have to depress the grip safety for it to fire. No S****! I take it to the range, give it to the RO and asked him to fire away. He loads it...safety forward, hammer drop, click, no bang, again, nothing, again, nothing. It fired the round maybe 25% of the time. Can someone please tell me how S&W CS repair works? :banghead: I now have to send it back to the factory. A $1500.00 custom made pistol that will not launch a bullet down the barrel.

IMHO, their customer service is getting like their QA/QC..... hit or miss.

It's a shame they did not fix your 952-2 the first time. I expect a gun to work, out of the box, the FIRST time. Especially a $1500 pistol. No excuse for it not being made right on the return.

Just for giggles, take some electricians tape and firmly tape the grip safety down. Then try it, you may find that the problem is getting the grip safety down hard enough. This may sound silly, but I have seen it show that the firer's hand did not fit the grip safety well enough to secure it in the down position.

I agree, I agree. Maybe it's me, but I picture some technician opening the box, looking at the gun, reading the note/letter and saying to himself, this idiot hasn't a clue how to operate this grip safety. He puts a couple rounds in the magazine, walks over to the test range, puts on his safety glasses, ear muffs and lucks out (that 25% of the time) and fires the rounds (if they fired at all). Hangs up his gear, walks back to his workbench, wipes down the gun and hand writes and note stating it works fine. Packs it up and moves on to the next PINA gun he has to repair. I wonder who controls the quality work of the quality technicians? It's really sad because I'm not the kinda guy who will trade it away and have some unfortunate buyer look at it and buy this nice clean shiny custom made auto. Then he discovers it malfunctions. Maybe I did expect to much from a S&W PC firearm. Funny though, my other less expensive auto's all work everytime the trigger is pulled. Even my XD that has a grip safety.

I feel your pain... I sent in my M65-LS last month for a master action job and barrel replacement. The gun came back shooting 3" to the right @25 yards and the action would start sticking after less than 2 full cylinder rotations.
So I sent it back with a note detailing the 2 specific issues.
I get the gun back last week, they didn't do anything for the action sticking, nothing noted in the paperwork returned that they even looked at it. They just realligned the barrel which should have been verified in the first place. Now I have to send it back again.
This won't stop me from buying more smiths of course

Sounds like the usual. They don't have to depend on or use the gun. They will ship anything that can go through two mags or twenty rounds without failing. To them that is considered good enough. Ship it back again and again and eventually they will do something.

What else are they supposed to do? If it works through 20 rounds, doesn't it stand to reason that it works? I mean, do you honestly expect them to fire hundreds of rounds through each gun they recieve for service? At what point is in-house testing good enough? 50 rounds? 100 rounds? 15 mags? 50 mags?
