How far do you travel to shoot?

Our local range burned down last year so I have to travel about 15 miles to the pistol range. My brother has a rifle range set up on his farm about 50 miles from here. There's also a public rifle range about 35 miles from here.
There's a public land fill (dump) about 10 miles away that let's a few of us shoot rats on the weekends.

Never measured but I'll guess it's about 10 miles. Takes me maybe 15 minutes if there's traffic.

Ten miles away there is a public range with pistol and 25, 100 and 300 yard rifle but it is on a military post and is frequently closed.

Normally I go to a private range with 15 yard pistol, 25 yd, 50 yd and 100 yd rifle ranges. Great place but it is 30 miles away.

I live in northern Nevada. I've shot my full auto (registered) less than a mile from home.

10 miles to the shotgun/skeet/trap range (not allowed on the pistol range unless you have a 1 year paid membership). Otherwise its 56 miles to the indoor pistol range - open to the public on a per hour basis. :banghead:

Depends

Howdy Michigan,
In soCal it depends on what kind of range I like to shoot that day. If I want to go to the open county range where you can shoot non-traditional targets (i.e. discarded washing machines, refrigerators, etc.) we head out past Simi Valley..that makes it about an hour drive on the freeway, about fifty or so miles).
Then if I want to go to a nearby range for shotgun, there's Pachmayrs, that's about five minutes from my place...or Fish Canyon about 20 minute drive. This place offers shotgun, pistol, and rifle open air ranges.
I think the closest indoor pistol range is San Gabriel Shooting Range which is about a 20 minute drive by freeway from my place.
So, all I have to do is put money in the piggy bank to pay for shooting time and ammo. :what:
How is it in your neck of the woods for some of you other shooters?

There aren't any free ranges around here that I'm aware of, but my neighbor has a membership to the WSA.

It's about 15 minutes away, don't know on the mileage.

The gun club range is about 15 miles, private range I use most is about 12.

ksstargazer

6 feet to my porch for skeet shooting, 200 yards to my range with dirt backstop.

About 100 feet for handgun,,,but I have to go about 50 yards to my 200yd rifle range (momma says no loud rifles up by the house). I hate having to walk all that way but other than that one request she's pretty cool so I don't force the issue.

For handguns I go to a range right down the street from work, about half a mile, usually go at lunch or after work. For rifles and shotguns I go to the DNR range at Pontiac Lake which is about 12 miles away.

About 15 feet from my kitchen door. If my wife were a little more accomodating and I had a better ventilation system, I'd open the kitchen window and shoot from the dinner table :D

The rifle range is about 100 feet from the house. But during deer gun season I shot at a deer from the front porch, about 3 feet from the front door. :)

My gun club, Rifle to 200yds, pistol range and skeet, is just on the outskirts of town, about a mile away. Close and $25 a year dues. :D

25 miles or 58 miles depending

on whether I go to the Bullet express in Springfield, Il. or out to my in-laws farmsted. Springfield is about 45 minutes and the farm is about 1 hour. There is a gun club in my home town but it is membership only and it takes two years and a sponsor to get in.

The range that I am a member of is about 12 miles away.
Pistol range is 7, 25 and 50 yards.
Rifle is 25, 50, 75, 100, 150 and 200 yards.
Also has a cowboy SASS range and sponsors SASS shoots.
Also has a walking bow range.
Skeet and trap are also available.

There are also three other ranges that I do not belong to within 15 miles. Two of them offer indoor ranges, one is indoor only.

Depending upon the range..

From Victor/Farmington NY there's the Victor Rod & Gun Club which is just down the road, or drive South a couple of miles to the Canandaigua range just off of Rt. 332.. or head East on the NYState Thruway a few miles to Geneva and their range. If I head the other way (North & West) toward Rochester there are a couple of ranges from Penfield to Rochester itself.

So depending on what I'm looking to shoot, or which direction to go, I have my choice of several ranges to shoot at.. and all within a short distance.
