I recently sold a few guns and have had people drive 200+ miles to meet me. Although I've not personally driven anywhere near that distance, I can see the advantage of being able to inspect the firearm in person before paying... especially if the gun is something I really , really want and expensive.

So, I'm wondering how many miles would you travel to buy or sell a gun. (I'm guessing people would be more inclined to travel when buying a gun.)

I usually treat the far, out of town folks to a range trip when time permits and let them try out my gun before buying. I figure that's something I can do since they traveled such a long way.

I have a few turn me down because of lack of time, but many took up my offer. Other times, I'd meet them at a restaurant and pay for the meal.

I once drove about 225 miles round trip to purchase a nickel S&W Model 13 from a THR board member. Great deal, great guy.

The _closest_ gun shop to me is 2 hours away.I think if I had one closer,I wouldn't end up with a new gun every month as I could be happy to weekly window shop and curtail the exhuberance a little.

I didn't vote, only because the furthest transaction I had was from Nebraska to Ohio, around 1K miles. Otherwise, the rest of mine were in the 50-mile range. That one from Nebraska (Beretta 87) was one that I wanted really bad!

For one I bought, a little over 700 miles, a 2 1/2 hour flight on a Saab twin, but I'm kinda cheatin',:D because that's how far I am from Los Anchorage and have no choice but to travel there.:neener:

I went about a 1,000 to pick up my Christmas present (a Ruger #1 RSI) in Fairbanks which is about 360 miles from Los Anchorage.

From Mobile Al to 2 hors west of Shreport La.

-But it wasn't JUST to get the gun, the guy I got it from was in Iraq with me... we did some shooting and some visiting also.

Used to live in Fairbanks, AK. Drove to Anchorage (forget the mileage, but it was like a 7+ hour drive) to buy my rifle and scope from a great Air Force retiree who sold it to me for cost + 3% and shipping. Any excuse to go the Anchorage was a good one though!

150+ isn't enough for the highest option. I did a 1700 mile round trip to pick up a rifle a few years ago.

Depends on the gun. If I were to get an AR, I would drive 480 miles to J & S Custom Guns in Lakeville, MN. They got what I would be after in an AR platform.

For a NIB Marlin Camp 9 or 45, I could be persuaded to travel anywhere between Canada, Mexico, the Pacific and the Atlantic.

For a Remthing 597 or a Ruger 10/22........my car is broke.... my feet are sore...I ain't got no money.....I don't buy guns on days that end in "Y"......Take yer pick!

I drove a few hundred miles to get a Winchester 9417 before they got rare and expensive. How far would YOU drive to get one of these?

I would travel much farther to look at a firearm than to visit the in-laws. :D

NailGun.

I've never traveled to buy or sell anything, but I did drive 2000 miles (round trip) to pick up a few firearms a relative left me when he passed away (and about 10,000 rounds of ammo). It was a good thing I had just bought a brand new pickup a few months earlier.

I like buying used, and I'll drive quite a bit for the right piece from a private party. Buying new is certainly easier, but I hate the concept of 4473's.

I've spent 8 hours driving round-trip before. To a THR member, of course. ;)

Damn, ya made me look it up...the mileage choices on your poll are too short.

Yahoo maps says I once drove 4,030 miles round trip to conduct a transaction. From my house in the Deep South to Los Angeles. I could have flown, but I didn't wanna risk transporting that gun with the baggage handlers. Yup, it was worth it. Who crazy??

The next longest trip was 377 miles round trip. That was worth it, too.

128 miles Eugene to Portland.

It would've been 160 miles from Bend to Portland but you didn't include parts/ammunition.

I've frequently bought guns at gun shows while on vacation. I think the farthest was about 1300 miles away (Florida) from NJ.
