How far do you travel to shoot?

Fortunately I can shoot for practice at my nephew's place, 5 miles away.

The clubs I shoot IPSC at are 110 mi South, or 85 mi North.

My wife went with me to KC last Fri nite (we did dinner & shopping first) and on the way home she said "OK, you drove 4 hrs RT to shoot 39 seconds on one stage and 45 seconds on the other." I told her that the only way to make it cost-effective was for her to start shooting IPSC, too.

Practice, occasional trapshooting or sporting clays = BCC-IWLA range, 8 miles.
Real practice = Either the NRA Range in Fairfax, or the Thurmont Conservation and Sportsmans Club south of Fredrick, about 40-45 miles either way.
USPSA and 3-Gun matches = I go to every one within a 2 hour drive.

I'd really like to have a place to do some long-range rifle practice, but apparently no such range exists in Northern Maryland or therebouts.

The club I'm a member of is about 25 minutes away. There's an indoor range that's closer, but I don't go there because the guys can be @sses about stuff. No rapid fire, only hanging paper targets, no pictures (not that this particular rule is posted or mentioned anywhere on the property), standard indoor rules. There's a free public range about 40 minutes up the road towards Greenville, but I don't go there anymore since I have a membership to the other place.

I envy you guys that can shoot on your property :( Maybe someday I'll be able to afford a place out in the country with enough land to shoot on.

For any type of shooting I want to do (including rifle to 1000+ yards) I have about 25 mins. of mixed driving to do.

My backstops are several hundred yards thick and made of rock. (we call em small mountains) and there is plenty of flat ground leading up to them. There is actually an old mine, but it has been closed off. Pity.

This is all public land and the only requirement is a state law that requires you to be at least 1000 yards away from any road or structure. Easy enough to do in NV's vast wilderness.

Not sure about mileage, but the *FREE* outdoor rifle/pistol/shotgun/archery range that is run by the county is 10 minutes from the house. The indoor 25yrd range I go to is an hour's drive.

300 miles to a cousins farm in WV.I grew up shooting in the outdoors and I hate indoor ranges.I guess I win the distance award,I usually leave at 4am,get to the farm around 900 am and shoot till 3pm then drive back.I do it once month.Makes for a lomg day.

There's roughly 8 miles and a stop sign separating me from the range.

On the down side, the canyon road it's located on is washed out at the moment. Can't get to it. :(

'Bout 35 miles to the indoor range (brand new and very nice). Almost 25 miles to the outdoor range (weather permitting).

Worth every $ spent on gas... :)

Just an estimate as I look out my window - roughly 125 yds. Time to get there can vary from 3 minutes to 15 minutes depending on whether I stomp on some mole tunnels on the way. :)

7 miles to the indoor range, 35 miles to the outdoor range for matches and training, 70 miles to the rifle range.

Range trip

is usually 20 minutes/15 miles.

Indoor range/gun shop that allows pistol, rifle to 2300 fps, and rents class III.

About 15 feet out my back door to my own 25 yd. pistol range. I can also do limited rifle shooting here out to about 100 yds. Otherwise the local range is about 30 minutes away. :)

How far to shoot?

Out the front or back door for 'dillers and other varmints, 100 feet to dry tank
for big guns. Long way for groceries, though.
