How far out are shooting your .357?

I shoot 100-300 yards about 6-10 times a year.

Here is a couple videos from a few weeks back at 155 and 210 yards. Full size IPSC plate at 210 and a smaller 1/2 or 2/3 size at 155.

What range is that? I see you're in Phoenix and I need a safer place than table mess to be able to shoot handguns at distance

It's Cowtown near Lake Pleasant. It's a private range and kinda expensive but I love it. Getting a membership usually takes a few months because you gotta wait for a member to leave as we are at capacity.

When I was a noobie shooter I went to the rifle range one day and there was a guy there shooting his .357 S&W revolver on the 200 yard range. Somewhat amazed, I watched him shoot it for awhile. Then I went to the spotting scope to see what kind of hits he was getting at that distance. That's when I discovered he didn't have a target hung down there. Momentary puzzlement until it finally dawned on me he was just having a good time making gun smoke and noise. That I could appreciate!! ;)

I like to have a target out there when I'm shooting. Even if I hit it 2 times out of 6. Last trip out someone left a pumpkin on top of a post at approximately 75 yards. I actually decided to shoot my 9mm shield at it. I think I might have hit it once or twice. Being that I dislike the shield for anything other than it's a good carry gun I was thinking I did pretty good.

I just bought a heritage rough rider 22LR/mag. First time out with it and I was hitting pretty consistenly out to about 35 yards. The front sight is hard to see being that the entire gun is a matte black. I put some red paint on the front sight so hopefully next time out I can be more consistent at longer distance.

With everything going on I just have not had opportunity for nearly as much range time as I would like.

That's what I figured. I need to pop in to check that range out. I've been thinking about a membership there for years

I rarely shoot my 6" .357 past 50 yards, it's a short-range weapon anyway. I've tried 100 yards a couple of times just to see if I can hit anything, but for me there's no practical value going that far out. I have larger calibers for that range (.41M) I generally stay at 15-25 yards with the 6", 7-25 yards with the 4", and 7-15 yards with my 2-1/2".

For ringing steel and punching paper it's fun. I'm not saying I would hunt or use it defensively at those distances. The 7, 15, 25 yard shots were getting boring. One day a co worker was with me at the range after work and both had our 6 inch barrel 357 pistols. Out about 150 yards I spotted a bottle up on the hill. We each took turns one shot each trying to hit it.

We probably spent an hour laughing and talking crap to each other while we were doing this. It was probably the simplest stupid thing I have ever had fun doing.

That's how it starts, then the euphoria of actually hitting it, then you go smaller, further, and realize the cartridge limitations. Next thing you know your sitting on 6 barrels and 2 contender frames, trying to remember what got you hooked on distance handgunning.

My best shots were ranged at a 160 yards. The guy at the range next to me saw me hit a bowling pin sized spinning target 4 out of 6 times while he was setting up. He used his range finder to check the distance and then asked me if I knew how far I was shooting. I shook my shoulders and told him I was guessing maybe 120 yards. He acted like he was impressed and told me the target was 160 yards.

I figured with my GP100 being relatively in original configuration I was doing pretty good. I have changed the sights and trigger spring. Since then I have changed the grips. The original factory sights leave a lot to desire. My hands are really big and the grip change has helped quite a bit as I have noticed trigger finger placement is very sensitive.

I have struggled with the thought of adding a scope. I want one but I don't want the added weight or awkwardness. I think it would really be a game changer for any distance shooting though. Also next time I'm up for ccw renewal I would like to add it and walking into the sheriff office for an inspection of a scoped revolver might be a little weird.

My GP100 is a great pistol in my opinion. It's probably my favorite pistol and I like to think of it as pretty much a do all pistol. This pistol is what opened up my eyes to shooting beyond the typical pistol distance and has also been great for helping me improve my all around shooting skills. Sometimes I do take some wild shots with my 1911 in 45acp. It just doesn't seem to like longer shots and the 357 just seems more accurate all the way around.

I've seen no drill/gunsmith required scope mounts for the gp100. I just got my 3d printer in the mail last night. I might be able to make my own now.
