.22s must be fun since Obama Administration is doing everything they can to keep people from shooting them as a recreational pastime.....

Shooting 22 LR, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be a great source of entertainment and fun. A typical day at the range is a few hundred 308, maybe some 30-06 and a few trips down to the short range for 22 LR between shooting high power rifle. Maybe some 22 LR handgun along with 22 LR rifle.

As to the cost? Went from Cleveland, Ohio to Columbus, Ohio for the 4th weekend. Had a great time and made with my wife what I call "The Mandatory Cabela's Stop" on the way n and out. Thursday around 11:00 AM a good stock of high end 22 LR but also plenty of boxes of Winchester 222 round boxes, 36 grain copper plated hollow points at $15 a box or about 6.7 cents a round. Today on the return we stopped and the place was well stocked around 1:30 PM and I mean well stocked with bricks of CCI Blazer 500 round bricks were $27 or about 5.4 cents a round. There was also plenty of Remington Bricks and other assorted bulk stuff out. Everything I saw was reasonably priced.

Anyway, back on target, heck yes, 22 LR may not be all of the fun but certainly a good percentage of it. :)

There are already several links in the thread. It's not magic. You just have to decide how much you plan to spend on .22lr for the month, like any other budgeting, and be diligent in checking or set up an email alert. When it comes in stock at a price you are willing to pay, buy it quickly.

You have to understand that purchasing ammo at inflated prices keeps prices inflated. If everyone stopped buying ammo, prices would plummet, as they did with .223 and AR rifles, but people aren't going to stop buying .22lr. The best thing you can for yourself is to avoid inflated prices by planning ahead and purchasing ammo as it becomes available, not two days before you plan to shoot. If you are patient, you can even build up a decent stock of it.
There are no links in this thread to ammo at 5-6 cents a round delivered.
The post above mentions ammo in that price range; that is not mail order ammo... Delivered at that cost.

I certainly have to agree on that note. I have been seeing more and more 22 LR at the retail level from stores like Cabela's, Bass Pro Shops, Dicks and Gander Mountain. I have not seen any with the 5 or 6 cents a round where shipping was included, I haven't overly looked but I believe one would be hard pressed to find those prices online with shipping included. A single 22 LR cartridge weighs next to nothing but put a few thousand together and they get heavy real quick.

Another online order consideration is tax. For example prior to Cabela's opening the Columbus, Ohio store there was no Cabela's in Ohio. Now if I online order from Cabela's we get hit with the sales tax. So now there is shipping cost plus sales tax. :(

Anyway, all things considered, the best pricing I have seen is at the retail brick and mortar level. Those not having easy access to local brick and mortar retail remain pretty much screwed unfortunately.

I took 24 guns to the farm for the 4th weekend. 11 of them were in 22 LR. We went through over 5k rounds of ammo in three days and killed many targets. We shot a lot of 9mm, .45, 380 as well as some rifles but 22 LR was 10 to 1 as even the 7 year old can shoot it and he has never fired a gun.
Breaking out the Heritage revolvers for the kids to practice Cowboy shooting while carrying a 22 LR lever gun is always cool.
The Mossberg Plinkster that looks like an AR was a big hit with the kids and I love the fact that the plastic and cheap gun will run any ammo I have ever put in it with the 10 round mag. GB, Thunder, Federal Bulk, etc and NEVER a hiccup.
How about a Walther in pink camo?
AR conversion.
M&P suppressed with a slide stock anyone?
Buckmark, Ruger, Phoenix (requires certain ammo).
Throw in an AK-22 for the 11 year old that wants to shoot an AK like in the video games.
Now my 22 LR stock is down to less than 25k rounds.
Does 22 mag count? I didn't want to tell people how much money it was costing me for them to shoot 30 rounds out of the PMR-30 so I just grinned at all the fun they were having.
No! 22 LR is not fun. I would rather debate the trigger and feel of a finely polished Dan Wesson and the functionality of Glocks with a bunch of gun officionados.

Pete D, it's not that simple. Go to the links that were posted earlier. Check them regularly. Set up email alerts. Wait for the price to hit they point at which you are comfortable. We've explained this several times. .22lr ammo is available at reasonable prices, but not if you expect instant gratification.

It seems we have been over this 100 times at THR. 22 LR can be had at decent prices but it doesn't just magically appear at your doorstep. I have bought literally 30,000 rounds in the past two years at "acceptable" prices. 2005 prices? No, but not $.10 a round either and I don't get to pick and choose the types. If they have Golden Bullets then I buy them and shoot them in the guns that like them. If I wait until I see Stingers or Blazer or Mini-Mags then I would also be out of ammo. The vast majority of this has been delivered to my door by UPS.

The poll makes me think this is some sort of psychological experiment. The overseer?

Your guess is as good as mine. :uhoh:

Personally I enjoy center fire a lot more than rim fire.

+1. I've never been a huge fan of .22LR. Its saving grace was being cheap and available everywhere. Now the only .22s I actually shoot are suppressed platforms. Otherwise, meh.
