How good are these?

A Nelson #1 Professional/Askins Avenger shouldn't have a sweat shield or a retention strap, but that is not a holster I'd spend money on.

I have some good IWB holsters but want to get some OWB holsters and found a good deal on these, BLACKHAWK Leather Compact Askins Holster. How good are these?, the only thing I don't like is no sweat shield but I can add that. No strap to keep gun in holster too has me to worry but I wonder if retention will be enough? Thanks
I like bianchi holsters, sadly they don't have a option for a threaded barrel 1911 or I'd have one from them for an OWB holster, I have a standard iwb bianchi from before I got the threaded barrel for my 1911. I use Blackhawk T Series holsters with the belt latch that is solid and won't go anywhere once on your belt, yet is easy to take off.

I wouldn't waste money on an Amazon holster unless I was desperate.
I don't know I bought some IWB holsters recently that are for a XDS that my G3c fit nice in. Amazon has a sale on some models, the XDS model was $5.95 and some others are over $70. Amazon can have great deals, I once got a thumb break Desantis for my LCR for $15 because that model was on sale while one for the SP 101 was nearly $100. They can be some great deals on there on good brands if you look good for them.

A retailer that sells counterfeit Chinese garbage and (generally) crappy, poorly sewn holsters 🤷‍♂️
I didn't realise El Paso Saddlery was a seller of cheap Chinese crappy, poorly sewn, holsters. I thought they sold top notch leather goods. Right now a very quick search revealed 17 different holsters made by El Paso Saddlery listed for sale on Amazon. If interested do a search for other quality holsters and I would bet you will find several more makers.

I have one of these https://epsaddlery.com/product/high-slide/

It isn't junk, but if one is paying El Paso's retail price that I linked to, you could do better. It's a good looking holster, but retention, even with that retention screw, is mostly through gravity.

Admittedly, I didn't buy it from Amazon. The Amazon point I'd make is that Jeff Bezos probably would rather none of us owned firearms. I don't do any Amazon shopping unless it's the only option.

I agree that some holsters on Amazon are junk, but they have specials on some name brand companies. I recently saw a Bianchi IWB holster that was normaly $80 on special for $22 for a certain model. Most specials of name brands on Amazon are for fit on certain guns, a $100 holster may be only $20 for the M&P and still be $100 for the Taurus or vise versa.

It really doesn't matter to me because when I want a holster I just make it. I just thought Amazon was getting a bum rap with your first post. Lots of quality products can be found there at lower prices than elsewhere, especially when you throw in free shipping to your door. Doing a little browsing on Woot and Amazon Warehouse can result in some real bargains.

I have a hard time buying a leather holster online that is made to fit different guns of a particular size. I like to fit my gun to the holster before I buy, just to make sure it does fit. I've come across several leather holsters for guns in the Glock 26 size class, that are labeled as fitting the Glock 26, and my Glock 26 won't fit - all. 1791 and DeSantis being two. I've bought plenty of Kydex-type holsters online for a specific make and model and they've all been fine. But leather holsters I only buy if I can see it, inspect it, and see if it actually fits my guns. If you do buy it, make sure you can return it.

Try bianchi holsters. They are awesome.

@1KPerDay was alluding to the fact that you think you’re buying the name brand from the name brand company. You are in fact, receiving a counterfeit product from their distribution centers.

My example: Paid full retail from what I thought was Spyderco on Amazon.
What arrived was a fake.

Knife, box, and letter likely fooled many people who didn’t know any better. However, read my chinglish letter below.

There is NO attempt by Amazon to weed these fakes out

Not sure what you see in that letter that screams Chinglish or counterfeit? Did you contact Spyderco?

Type-O’s, formatting, etc. Aside from the fact that the knife had the quality of a .50 cent convenience store purchased one.

Yes, Spyderco was contacted along with Amazon. It’s been serval years back

Old Fart

This is Bianchi's version of the Askin's Avenger. It has seen a lot of use over the years but still holds my Combat Commander nice and snug the way it always has. If you're concerned about retention there is a safety strap with it though I never have put it to actual use.
