Shotgun news has a vendor who is selling 1000 rounds of 9mm for $99 bucks... how good is PMP South African ammo?

Many thanks.

Wes

Thanks, Preacherman. Sounds like decent stuff, then. :)

Chickenfried, they do have .45 ACP of the same brand. It's 220 grain though, not 230. It's $155 per 1000. Oh, and they pay shipping! It's at www.wideners.com -- the item number for .45 is SA45, and the item number for 9mm is SA9.

I have used the .223, .45 ACP, and 9mm. A few rounds of the 9mm required two hits to fire, something that had never happened before (and has not happened since) with my USP.

SA .223 was filthy with so-so accuracy out of several AR's. Due to this experience I haven't been too interested in trying any 9mm. I'm interested in what others have to say.
Sparks indicate the presence of steel. This tempers my enthusiasm for it as well.

Tupperware,
Nothing wrong with steel, my friend! I've used tons of steel jacketed bullets with no ill effects. (That is, no ill effects on anything other than the target, LOL)

My friend uses South African ammo, usually surplus, all the time. That guy buys it up every chance he gets and the one time I shot with him, it seemed fine. Other than it being 1-1/2" (50yds) lower than the factory Winchester, it worked well functionally. After sighting it in, no problemo. A little dirty but, if you clean your gun, big deal.

I have fired the PMP in .303 Brit and 45ACP. The .45 stuff is 220grns instead of 230, but worked perfectly and was accurate. My personal experience with it has been excellent. Several friends who have shot the PMP .303 swear by it.

This is what is mostly used in South Africa, although I think they have lost the government contract. If I am not mistaken the government uses the NGA ammo now.

I think the PMP 9mm is a tad on the slow side.

The PMP .32 FMJ and .38 Special HP however are IMHO some of the best in the world.

Never heard of any ammo related problems with the new generation PMP.
