How good is the Ruger LCP .380?

I have shot a few LCP's - two are range rentals and 3 of them belong to "Support Group" members. I belong to a group of shooter who share information and guns with other members to help find the best "bang for the buck" for other people. Neet bunch...

Anyway, the consensus of the group is that the LCP is an excellent choice if you can handle the recoil and shoot it enough to become proficient with deploying it and getting accurate rapid follow ups.

The folks that love it are larger, more experienced shooters that can soak up and deal with the rather brisk recoil generated by a teeny, tiny pistol that weighs very little. Most of the group (normal folks - women and generally less experienced shooters wanting CCL guns) find the LCP too brisk and brutal to practice with on a regular basis but find the reliability, price, availability, and concealment to be top end.

Why didn't you buy her the Bodyguard she liked? It's significantly more comfortable in the hand. Yeah, you made a mistake.

.

I didn't get her the Bodyguard because it was $140 more than the LCP and money's tight. I did tell her we could switch if she wanted to though.

"What small pocket pistols are better?" [usmarine0352 2005]

My 2 favorite pocket pistols are the outstanding Sig P238 and Walther PPK, both will hit the target out to 50 yards. They are also capable of accurate rapid-fire.
Both are quite a bit heavier and more expensive. You must have big pockets if you consider the Walther a pocket pistol.

What is and isn't a pocket pistol is subjective. I can pocket carry a M&P 9C.

Exactly and well said. I often get the "eye roll" about carrying a Glock 26 or Beretta Px4 subcompact as a "pocket gun"....what can be pocket carried has everything to do with the size of the person (I'm 6' 3") and the weight of the person, type of pocket and where it is, style of pants, colors, and other dress options.

Stuff a G26 in a front pocket of tight blue jeans? That might be a little tough....in dark colored pleated dress pants like Dockers with a pocket holster? Piece of cake.

Glock 42, Walther PPK/s, even stuff like a XD-S is easy in a pocket if you dress for it.

Well, my new one has 126 rounds through it with no stoppages attributable to the gun or any signs of loosening up. I have no reason to believe it won't continue to do so. I'm lucky to find .380 ammo anyway.

According to a Ruger Rep at a large gun show I attended , the LCP is their best selling carry gun. I have a new one , with the improved trigger and it is a dandy little pocket gun. I have put about 450 rounds through it without any problems.
