I am looking at buying an older Henry H001. I am getting a good deal on it, but I know it has some plastic parts. I also know that they can be replaced with metal ones. If I understand correctly, it is the barrel bands and front sight that are replaceable. Are both barrel bands or just the front one plastic? How hard are they and the sight to replace? Any special tools needed? Also, will I need new screws for the metal parts or will the old one work? Thanks for any advice.

Last I heard they will send you one & the screw for 10 bucks.
I think all you need is an Allen wrench the right size?

A friend just bought a new one about a month ago, and we were both convinced it had the plastic front sight & band.

So, he called them.
They said stick a magnet on it and see.

Sure enough, it was steel.

I could see no point in changing out a plastic one if you can't tell them apart by looking at them.

Like some old guy said:
Don't fix it if it isn't broke!

What's wrong with the bbl band being nylon or what ever it exactly is? It's very durable, light weight and doesn't rust...

My old Henry "plastic" bbl. band is just fine, and it's the most abused rifle i own, i bought it for a beater and that's exactly what it gets used for!

I was told that on the Henry I am going to look at the barrel band is loose and needs replacing. I am not sure if it is the front or rear band. The front band appears to be part of the front sight in pics I have seen. But, I figured if I had to replace parts, metal would make the most sense.

BTW, are both bands plastic on your gun? Do you think they would be difficult to replace?

The band and the front sight are easy to replace with a standard screwdriver and can be done within a couple of minutes. If you get the rifle and the plastic bothers you, then order the metal parts and switch them out. I bought an older one last summer with plastic parts and had planned on changing them out, but after having it in hand I didn't really see the need. I'm someone who doesn't care much for plastic parts on any of my firearms, but they work just fine and seem to be very durable as they are.

Once you get that thing loaded up and start shooting it you'll be having so much fun you'll be thinking, "What plastic?".
