Thoughts on a Henry H001

I've got a Henry...nice gun! As a plinker and squirrel/little critter shooter, I've got no problem with the plastic parts (well, maybe someday, but other things have higher priorities).

$225 sounds kind of salty for the H001 though. I paid under $200 NIB.

The H001 is the most fun gun that I own and the only gun I shot that has made me smile more was a BAR that was fun. I replaced the sights and barrel band , wish they came standard but price points need to be met somehow. Going out shooting with the H001 today as well as My Henry Big Boy .44 :)

Around here (DFW) $218 would be a good price.
Cheapest I've seen is $199 on sale, and those lasted about 5 minutes.
$225 seems to be the price point, but I have not checked Academy.

I have two guns on my "buy" list, and they are both .22s

IMO I would say make the trade.

You have already said you don't like the SKS all that much and it is a relatively unused firearm.

Value wise you are definately coming out ahead. A well used Yugo SKS like you say yours is runs around $125-150 right now. Condition is the key on value for those SKS. Unissued ones are running $175-200.

The Henry is almost across the boards around $200 new for one. Good deal there.

The only negative i can see is that the SKS will probably go up in value as time goes on, whereas the Henry probably will not, or not nearly as fast as the sks.

Trade a well used SKS for a new Henry H001? I'd do that trade in a heartbeat:what: Unless it's one of the rarer SKS varieties or you have some money in mods, you're coming out way ahead on that deal. You can always buy another SKS via gunshows for cheap if you start missing it.

Amazing how many used Henry H001's you see at gunshows in the $300 range :uhoh:

Good point!

It's not like you're going to be in Alaska on a $20,000 guided chipmunk hunt, or you're going to use it as grizz defense, only to have the rifle break.:D You can fix it if it ever breaks; no need to pour money into it up front.

The H001 provides some of the best fun for the buck of any gun around.

Before springing for the Golden Boy, compare it to the 39A and decide which one you like best (also Browning BL-22, which is too light for my taste but may be great for yours).

But as a trade for an SKS, the H001 is a great choice! Much cheaper to shoot, too.

Got mine from Wal-Mart for $120 about 4 years ago. Great action, smoothest thing in the world. Easy to take apart and clean (4 screws) reliable, never had a misfire, never had a failure to extract and it's dead on accurate. It does have it's drawbacks, painted metal cover on the reciever that's prone to scratches, but I overlook all that for the amount of fun this little thing has given me. Literally, freestanding, 100 yards hitting bowling pins. I've blown out most of the black on targets at the 50 yard range. It's a good little gun, great fun too. I've taken it down to basic components, put it back together with no issues.

I picked up my Henry today!!!

I picked it up this afternoon. I have to say this little rifle is fun to shoot! Don't really know what kind of accuracy it is capable of, because it was so much fun to shoot off hand at Coke cans. Only put 45 rounds through it, but I love it already. It is so light, slim and handy that I can't wait for squirrel season!:D

Glad to see you went through with it, after reading the whole thread just now. I agree with others, for a beater SKS it is a good trade.

I'm sure you will enjoy it much more, since the SKS just wasn't your thing.

You'll love Henry's customer service if you ever need to use it.

I'm going to be buried with my bigboy:D Wife thinks I'm kidding...
