How horrible is the stock CZ 75B trigger?

I didn't address the reset in my post. The reset is longer than I like, but not something I consider REALLY long and annoying. It is a very positive reset, just longer than I like.

From what I hear they do vary from gun to gun like others have said. However, mine had excellent out of the box triggers, and have only become better with use. Both my stock 75B, and stock PCR are excellent. The PCR's trigger is a bit lighter, and crisper. My friends SP-01 is also excellent, as was the Phantom I shot at my gun club the other day. So out of the four I've shot, they've all been good. Just lucky I guess.

When new a lot of brands are going to have a bit of a gritty feel. Not many of us are willing to pay for the extra time and hand finishing to smoothly stone the parts that need it for this to not be the case. So it comes down to either "break in" the action so it burnishes itself into smoothness with lots of dry firing or actual shooting or do the smoothing yourself either on your own if you have the tools and skills or have a smith spend an hour or so on it if you don't have the tools and skills. Or simply shoot it a lot.

I've shot a few new or near new CZ's and I have to admit that they can feel a little gritty out of the box. The Omega actioned guns in particular are bad for that. But the same guns located at a rental range when tried a few months, and a few thousands of rounds later were buttery smooth with a nice crisp break.

Even my own Shadow benifited from the "poor man's trigger job" early on. This is where you cock the hammer and then push on it with about 10 lbs of extra force while pulling the trigger. The extra pressure burnishes the sear and hammer hooks in a few times about as much as 1000 regular trigger pulls. This works like a treat on any new hammer gun. But it's not going to do anything on a gun which broke in more "naturally" with regular use.

For me what matters when it comes down to a choice between two guns, is which can have the better trigger AFTER I've had custom work done. Because, I will have some level of custom work done to the gun. I'd rather have fewer guns, that have really been tuned up, than more guns that are just ok.

Even with the same model of gun from the same manufacturer, the triggers on several different guns can vary from good to bad. If gun A generally has a better trigger than gun B, what good does that do you if you purchase gun A and it has a poor trigger? If you're luck enough that a shop has several examples of the same gun, I guess you could try them and pick the best one. Mark

I love my CZ-75B SS trigger. Was pretty good out of the box and after ~1000 rounds its even better, or maybe I'm just more used to it. Either way I'm darn accurate with it in SA.

The PPQ has a fantastic trigger, even it being Glock style.

The DA pull is long but very smooth.
The SA pull is gritty/creepy.
I have never had one or handled one that didn't fit those descriptions of mine.
The gritty feeling went away on mine after around 500 rounds or so. I can agree with your assessment of the trigger.

The CZ75 is capable of very good accuracy once you get used to the trigger. My 75B has a better trigger than both of my XDM 4.5" pistols.

My 75B now has ~ 600 rounds through it. The improvement is there since new but it is small and unnoticeably gradual. My 75B has a better trigger in both DA & SA than the "Certified Pre-Owned" Sig P226 I almost bought from Bud's yesterday.
I have been pretty much saying from day one my 75B is the best DA/SA I have ever owned. And I have owned Sig, HK, Beretta.

I have a PCR, a slightly different action, but close enough for a reasonably valid comparison. The single-action pull is a little bit rough and "creepy" due to its very positive hammer engagement. To say that it is so bad as to make the gun unshootable is a ridiculous exaggeration. The double-action pull is short and smooth, however.

I had a CZ 75B Single Action.
The trigger was not very good....it required a rather long reach, it had too much travel, and it was certainly not the smoothest.
I don't know if I would call it "gritty", but definitely not smooth.

I don't own a CZ but one of the best triggers I have tried was on a CZ75C. Smooth DA probably no more than 8-9 lbs and a SA of around 4 lbs. Haven't found one that good since but would buy a CZ if in the market as they fit my hand like my Browning HP's.

Actually, it's a very good comparison as internally, except for the decocker mechanism, the guns are virtually identical. Parts interchange.

The 75B and 75B compact models (p-01, PCR, Compact) have a different (shorter, slightly heavier) hammer and recoil spring, needed to accommodate a slightly shorter grip and barrel, and those with decockers have one rather than two hammer hooks, to make room for the decocker mechanism. Some of the newer models (like the P-01 and certain PCRs) have a slightly different trigger, with more curve, which shortens the length of pull slightly.

The new Omega trigger system, with which I have no experience, changes things quite a bit; I'm looking forward to handling and shooting one of those, one of these days.
