Hello all,

Mods, if this is the incorrect location, please move this thread, I could not find a better place for it

Okay, so I understand that to gain entry to Shot Show one must be involved in the industry.
But how involved in the industry must one be?
And when you become involved, do you write up a request or something??

I ask because I'm currently buying a portion of a new gun shop/training center, and was really hoping it would be possible.
And if that's an utterly ridiculous question then I'm sorry, I haven't heard the details about Shot invites

Thanks all!!

This link pretty much covers who can attend:

http://shotshow.org/attendees/why-attend/

In addition to current and valid government-issued photo identification, attendees must provide at least one of the following:
Current Federal Firearms License Type 1 and 2. Types 2, 6, 7, 8, 9 10 and 11 will require additional documentation as mentioned below.
Purchase order or invoice issued or received by your company dated within the last six months for shooting, hunting and related outdoor, military, law enforcement or tactical products or services. Invoices and receipts must show your company name and current business address.
Business license that includes your company name and business address and that describes your company as directly related to the shooting, hunting or outdoor trade or the military, law enforcement or tactical market (Federal and/or State Tax ID will not be accepted).
Resale certificate that includes your company name and business address and that describes your company as directly related to the shooting, hunting or outdoor trade or the military, law enforcement or tactical market.
Commercial lease identifying your company name and current business address and that sufficiently demonstrates your company’s direct affiliation with the shooting, hunting or outdoor trade or the military, law enforcement or tactical market.
Company business advertisement in a print magazine, journal, etc., published during the last six months directly related to the shooting, hunting or outdoor trade or the military, law enforcement or tactical market.
Company website identifying your company name and current business address and that sufficiently demonstrates your company’s direct affiliation with the shooting, hunting or outdoor trade or the military, law enforcement or tactical market.
A letter of intent from an attorney or bank on official letterhead stating that you intend to start a business directly related to the shooting, hunting or outdoor trade or the military, law enforcement or tactical markets (this is acceptable for new businesses only).
Employees of non-exhibiting companies must provide written confirmation on their employer’s letterhead authorizing their attendance at the show. Letter must indicate confirmed meetings with exhibiting companies – NO Suitcasing/Outboarding Permitted. Employer must be directly affiliated with the shooting, hunting or outdoor trade or the military, law enforcement or tactical market and employee’s attendance must be for employer’s business purposes.
Law enforcement and military personnel registering as “Buyers” must furnish a written statement from their commanding officer or other superior in their chain of command verifying purchasing authority.
Other appropriate documentation that clearly demonstrates, as solely determined by show management, you or your company’s direct affiliation with the shooting, hunting or outdoor trade or the military, law enforcement or tactical market.
The following are NOT acceptable documents: Business cards, firearms permits, FOIDs, hunting licenses and NRA or other affiliate firearms instructor permits will not be accepted.

Applications submitted without current and valid identification AND documentation demonstrating trade or market affiliation will not be processed. The show reserves the right to permit or deny admission to anyone based on information provided, to accept or reject information submitted and to request additional information, at any time.

Thank you very much for the answer, I just read through the bits in the link and what you have copied and pasted.
Just one thing isn't clear- The first requirement after showing and ID is showing a valid FFL, and then there are other optional requirements below
So to gain entry, you must have a type 1 or 2 FFL, or have an different FFL and also meet another criteria?

The FFL is not in my name as I did not found the business, but I am very much involved in it

It's not as bad as it sounds. I put in the details of a gun club I belong to when registering a few years ago. When I got there I didn't even bother to pick up my credentials. It is just like any convention, if you act and dress like you belong there (i.e. not a tourist in shorts) and have a bag of shwag its unlikely anyone will kick up a fuss.

I have friends who go all the time. One is a writer for gun mags, one is an engineer who told them he builds underground personal gun ranges, which is how I got in one year. It is VERY crowded, especially in. The tackycool section as that has more folks hawking mores"stuff" than any other category

I don't know. I have been to both, but not the same year, so cannot really compare them.

If you are a real dealer, you can place orders for stuff at SHOT. There are a lot of vendors and dealers who do much of their year's business there.

I went to the NRA show in the late 1970's or early 1980's in Denver and there was a lot to see. I can't imagine that if a dealer tried to place an order for something at the NRA show that the dealer would be turned down

I'm currently buying a portion of a new gun shop/training center,

That will do.

Apply online and use the business address and you'll be walking your feet off early next year.:D

Thank you all so very much for the info!! The site makes it sound pretty restrictive.
I'd be ridiculously excited if I can make it in, and from what I hear, it sounds really viable.

Again!! Thank you all!!

Sounds easy to get in then. Pay a lawyer to write a brief letter of your intent to start a firearms related business.
