most likely because one is the actual ser # and the other is not. HK pistols have a Ser # on the frame which is the gun's official ser #, and one on the slide which is meaningless except for making sure that the gun is all original (well that the slide came with the frame anyway).
 
On an S&W the serial number is on the butt of the gun. The number under the cylinder yoke is an assembly number. Usually the match but not always.
 
The interesting thing here is that the number inside the yoke is the one that appears on the box, which, presumably, is the one it was originally recorded by.
