I just had an SBR go just over three months, but it may just have been my examiner. Rumor has it, however, Ken Houchens is no longer at the helm of NFA, things are going to crap, and pending times are going back to the old 3 month wait.

Same here on my SBR. Looks like the ATF has gotten approval times to around 3 months.

DON'T CALL!! I was warned by my FFL that if you call, your application will go to the bottom of the pile and the wait will start all over again.

thanks....

so even though I mailed in the all the paperwork, they'll send the form 4 to my dealer correct?

thx,
DB

Not quite sure in Texas. Here in Nevada the paperwork was sent to the dealer and they called me when it came in. Since ATF is federal I would believe that it is done the same way in all states.

My last two transfers through an LLC were right about 6 weeks. Fastest ever was several at about 28 days. That was right after the move. -- yes, the approved form 4 will be sent back to the dealer/transferor.

so now I get to bug my dealer:D

what about the comment above about your form 4 going to the bottom of the pile?

Why can't they process these in a "reasonable" amount of time? I wonder how many request they get per year?

I think they only have 5 or 6 people who work on approving the forms, and not all of them are always working. As a result, when there's a surge in forms being sent in, it takes a lot longer for them to finish.

9 weeks for me (about 2 months ago). 5 to go pending, 4 till my dealer called and said to come pick it up. That was my first, I don't know if they are faster after you've already been through once.

Silencer, MG, SBS, SBR...doesnt matter. A F4 is a F4 and they are currently running pretty slow. I just had a dealer to dealer F3 that took almost 2 months for approval.
My first F4 was sent in on 03-?-08 and approved 05-13-08 (silencer). I am about to send in two F4s for a MG/silencer that just got in to my dealer yesterday. I am expecting it to take upwards of 3 months for approval  but the wait will be worth it :D

Govt employees will only work efficiently if a supervisor is willing to apply the boot and the lash effectively (annual evaluations and performance bonuses). Plus slow performance at the end of the fiscal year might mean they're attempting to get more staff.
