I haven't seen anyone recently comment on how long it takes Florida to process CCW applications these days. I'll be teaching a class this weekend, and I'd like to give the students some idea of how long of a wait they will have for mailed-in forms and processing through a regional Dept of Agriculture office.

Anyone have any current/recent info?

Yoda,
Currently it is taking about 14 to 16 weeks if nothing is wrong with the original application. Department of Licensing will send it back if you forget to fill out any information or check each appropriate box. Then you start over. There is a better way to apply. Find the nearest regional office, call for an appointment (usually 4-8 weeks later) go there in person on the time and date of your appointment with your proof of training. The people in the office will take your picture and fingerprints, as well as help you fill out the form correctly on their computer. They will take your check with no need for bank check or postal money order. You get your license in the mail in 2 to 3 weeks.

Here's the link to the Tampa regional office:

I mailed mine in 3 weeks ago.

The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer services website states to allow at least 90 days.

In early July, I applied "electronically" (but had to bring a hard copy of my training cert) at one of the regional license locations (Orlando), and it took only three weeks to receive my permit.

However, that was after a two month wait for the appointment. I called to make the appointment in May, and early July was the earliest date available.

The process took about 25 minutes total - split between completing the electronic application at a computer, and getting electronic prints & a pic taken.

They could have easily handled two or three more applicants at the same time. One applicant was leaving when I arrived, and one or two showed up while I was there, but they were still in the waiting area as I left.

I was told - and there were signs posted several places - that it could take up to 90 days to receive the permit. The status could be checked online, but I never checked it, as I received the permit sooner than expected.

Overall, a simple & painless process, except for the 45 minute drive I had each way (my car has no A/C).

For out of staters like me, it could be anywhere from 6 weeks to 90 days. I can only speak for the non-resident process.

I got mine before all of this craziness started. I can't say much for times now, but if they have time, tell them to make an appointment at the local Department of Agriculture office. It's a lot faster than mailing the stuff in.

I did that and got mine in a few weeks.

IIRC, when I got mine, they were REQUIRED to issue within 90 days and actually hired more staff due to the huge demand to meet that legal requirement. It can be shortened by going to the AG offices located in several major locations around the state - that should shorten the time a lot

My wife went to the local West Palm Beach Dept of Ag office, after completing her course and getting her certificate. She had to wait about 2 weeks for an appointment at the office.
Had the application, photos, biometircs etc all done at the office and they then told her it couild take up to 90 days for final approval and issue.
She received her CWL in the mail no more than 4 weeks later. :)
So, I would say it was a max of 6 weeks turn-around from the time she started the process(called for an appointment)

My CWL renewal was issued on the spot at the local WPB office after waiting 2 weeks for an appointment as well.

You get much faster response by going to your local Dept of AG offices and doing the application in person.
