How long until prices return to normal on guns

Depends on where you shop. It's really not a question of price, it's a question of supply. FBMG, for example, is not inflating their prices at all because of the crunch. (Other than to reflect any increases from their distributors.)

I was in Cabela's a month ago, saw several EBRs for very reasonable prices. Keep your eyes open, be prepared to move when you see what you want, JUST LIKE REGULAR TIMES.

screw the price of guns, i havent been able to find a box of ammo at wallmart since late last fall. the shelves have been empty since.

We might well be seeing the absolute rock-bottom right this very minute; it's hard to think otherwise, in fact. Consider the fact that despite the high prices many of us have experienced during the past 6 months or so, the guns are flying off the shelves at shops and big box stores all across the nation. Why in the world should we think that things will ever return to "normal" (whatever normal means)?

eventually the supply will catch up to the demand (unless the laws change). I can tell you that there is some $$$ to be made by ammo manufacturers and eventually they will be cranking out enough supply so they make every sale possible.

I don't follow the AR drought so I can't speak from there but you go to Bud's online and pick up any handgun. I have noticed that they do sale out but in a few days it appears they get more on the shelf.

Some handgun manufacturers are probably hesitant to ramp up capitol to purchase new machines b/c they don't want to be left holding the bag. To me the only REAL problem is the shortage of ammo and reloading supplies. Even if you have to pay 20% more for the handgun/rifle that is a one time cost that most would eat. The ammo prices and shortages actually keep people from shooting.

In the end this is just a supply/demand issue and if the laws do not change it will work itself out sooner than later probably within ~12 months IMO.

On a positive not these high prices have put $$$ in the gun/ammo manufacturer's hands which means the gun lobbiests are now pumping $$$ into your local congressman's pockets WHICH WILL PROTECT ALL OF US.

As this article points out...

http://thehill.com/leading-the-news...-opposing-weapons-ban-revival-2009-02-26.html

both Pelosi and Reid oppose an AWB and I read somewhere that 60+ dem members of congress wrote Pelosi a letter they would strongly, verbally oppose any attempt to restore AWB.

So looks like some of that $$$ is getting to the right pockets. Of course we should remain vigilant but hopefully things will settle down soon.

It's simple economics. Right now prices are high because demand is exceeding supply. When the two are in balance, prices should return to normal levels. While manufacturers are struggling to keep up with demand, especially for ammo, they don't want to ramp up to the point that the market will eventually be flooded, because then supply will exceed demand, which means losses for the manufacturers.

I know guns are selling, but how can prices be unusually high when dealers are still selling a pistol with an MSRP of $782 for $675 => and TAKING $630 cash. Heck, FNP-45 USGs are in fairly high demand/low supply. That's about $150 under list price.

If prices were "high", wouldn't they be selling for MSRP or more?

Other than ARs and other ebrs, what has been out of whack price wise?

Another gun store, a local one, still mails out their monthly advertising paper and they have different new guns on sale all of the time.

I finally came to the conclusion that it depends on the store.

Some stores are still selling at what I consider normal prices. Others are selling way above MSRP and laughing at the idea of anything less.

When my LGS tried to change the price of an order on me significantly, I placed my order elsewhere. Funnily enough, my gun store will be doing the transfer. After I spent a fairly large amount of money, they could have gotten another $4,500 from me. Instead, now they'll be getting $35 + tax. It's not personal. I'm just not an idiot.

I am an idiot, but I'm tight with money. :)

I've never been one to worry about $25 or $50 here or there if it's something I want - NOW. Of course, when the original Colt WWI Repros were going for $899 some places to more like $999 most places, I paid $999 for the first one I saw. Well, no, the first one local one I saw was $1174.

Oh well.

$25 - $50 I can handle. We're talking more like hundreds to a thousand dollars more or worse.

Local shops have AR's on the rack sitting there. A friend and FFL holder placed an order with DPMS expecting a many week or month wait, so he upper the order. It came in in just three days.

Ammo and reloading components are another story.

I haven't seen any $500 to $1000 guns selling for 100s to a 1000 over list price - except ARs and maybe an FN SCAR that was marked up to $5k from the MSRP of almost $3k. But the SCAR is new.

Maybe things are different around the country, my normal weekly rounds only include Richmond out to Winchester, Staunton, Roanoke and east to Va Beach/Norfolk/etc.
