What is it comparable to?

Looking for a varmint round, but trying to keep the noise down.......

Well, you will need some sort of hearing protection from any round that you choose. While I wouldn't say that it is as loud as a .22-250, out of the same barrel length, the .204 does seem louder than a .223

What types of varmints and ranges are you thinking?

As loud as any other centerfire caliber burning 28 grains of powder at 57,000 PSI.
Like a .223 for instance.

If you want a quieter caliber, look at .22 Hornet, .17 Hornet, or .17 HMR or .22 WRM rim-fire.

All are capable 200 - 250 yard small varmint calibers and won't wake the neighbors 1/2 mile away on Sunday morning.

Mostly ground hogs right now. Max distance around 300-350 yards.

Was hoping it would be quieter than 223. My AR-15 seems as loud as my 7mag.....

it may seem louder to you because of the flash hider/brake that most have. If you have that setup that is..... I hear them all the time and they are pretty distinct to me from far. Kinda muffled with less of a crack

You won't get quieter than that and have a better 300-350 yard g-hog round.
Well.. at least without aluminum housings and copper mesh and such.

Craig, mine has no flash hider, just barrel. It just seems loud. Maybe I am just not used to it.

That's in the long term plans......

Already do that with rimfire, and its fun. Can just imagine centerfire.......
